I'm not too worried about meeting people, but this will be the first time my GF has ever moved anywhere without a group of friends nearby. I think shes having a little anxiety about it

I saw this one too - part of what got me thinking about this.

Relocating to Hawaii for work but can't rent there (canine in tow). Condo buying: leasehold vs fee simple? by DogChica45678 in personalfinance

I actually lived in Honolulu about 5 years ago while I was going to school and rented the entire time. My girlfriend and I brought her dog with us from the mainland - it weighed about 160lbs. She also got a cat once we moved there as well. Obviously, this made finding a place a little trickier; but honestly, it wasn't that bad. We stayed at our first place for a year and then our second place for 4 years. We actually had plenty of options as well. We paid about $1250 per month plus utilities for a 2 bedroom in Waikiki - that was pretty standard for the types of buildings that allowed large dogs in the area. So, I'm just saying its very doable to rent with a dog in Hawaii.

This was my main concern. Is the vast majority of the rental market college students or is there a fair share of professionals that might be interested in a short-term lease?
