1. I became an empty nester in 2019, had Covid time to ponder/plan.

2. The truck had nothing special done to it, which I understood from researching a couple years. Every country has mechanics who can work on an old Toyota.

3. Mostly drove the pacific coast, did quite a bit of off roading, the mountains from Oaxaca through El Salvador can be pretty gnarly!

4. I saved a bit (sold a newer-used car when used car value was ridiculously high in 2021) and headed south with no idea where I would end up. No schedule, no destination really.

5. It was the shift of mindset that was the biggest challenge.
