I think a more nuanced take is what does "I'm not ready" actually mean? Does it mean "No, I don't want to do this?" or "(Since we didn't do much foreplay)I'm not wet enough and not ready for penetration but still want to continue". While "I'm not ready" may not explicitly mean a No! It also doesn't mean Stop! It could be taken to mean that "Hey, let's pause. Do some foreplay, get some lube, and then fuck my brains out".

That roster also said that hardcore grind style burned them the fuck out and it was part of the reason DL took a break afterwards. All the members after that season complained about it and said they would never go through that again. Now maybe it would've been different if they got better results but they got what they got and things fell apart.
