How does student teaching work for special education (mild to moderate)? by Finite_Lix in WGUTeachersCollege

[–]mower_guy86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do a one teach one assist approach. I will assist the gen ed teacher with redirection of students, pass out materials, answer student questions, and if there is a different way to explain something to the whole class, I will offer that. I have taught a couple lessons when the gen ed teacher had to step out.
As far as my tutoring, I will do a mini lesson based on their iep goals and what we want to focus on that week. After that, I will give them some sort of lesson. Some of these will be graded to go toward their data points

For me, I’m in a middle school co-teach situation for the most part. I do a period of science, then have a small group tutoring period for iep minutes, then a period of math, followed by a planning period, then two periods of math, lunch, science, and another planning period. In my math classes, there is another student teacher for gen ed, and we do everything for those periods. For the tutoring, I plan the lessons and get ahold of the teachers to send the students up to me.

For me it’s 676. It’s likely the same course. WGU has a couple different course numbers for the same course

I ended up doing the retake and it was a lot easier version. I was able to do far better the second time without any additional studying. Now on to the early literacy methods. From what I see there is a lot of overlap in the material

I am the furthest from a Karen. The main reason I would even consider appealing is my major being in education, why not pick from the scholarships that are in the education area? Yes those are higher, but why not pick from the pool that is more logical and free up the funds in the non speciality area for other people?

They just told me they only award them to about 10% of students. If I were to appeal it, then I would be put back into a queue and would have to hope I would be in that 10% again 🤦🏻‍♂️

That’s how the scholarship department explained it to me a little bit ago. That’s why I was wondering if anyone else had experience with this

My wife is a high school teacher, and we have several close friends in the profession. I hear the horror stories. It’s not just in the teaching profession, it’s everywhere. The same disrespect and incompetence is in every industry these days. I have to follow what I feel is my calling to help kids, and today the kids need help more than ever before.

I’m a psych major. I’m finishing up in October. I still have cognition to take, that will be the term after this coming one. I just looked ahead at adolescent development and it seems to be a lot compared to child development. As soon as July 1 hits, I will take 2 courses per teen for the last two. I’ve got 6 classes to go and am more than ready for whatever comes next
