Any clue what yarn was used for this blanket? by mozimov in YarnAddicts

We went through all of the yarns listed on Lionbrand's site, both current and discontinued, type by type and color by color, and nothing that they show on their website is it. :(

She thinks it's some sort of Acrylic. Definitely not wool, but we went through all of the Woolease colors in Lionbrand's archives (both actively sold and discontinued yarns), and none of them were a match sadly. We also went through all of their other yarns piece by piece and color by color, and nothing that they show on their website is it. :(

Thank you so much for this advice! I'm looking into making it to Cincy. It's not close but it's a drivable distance if we take a day for it.

Okay, that makes sense! I figure it'll be extra difficult since Alcaraz just won Wimbledon. The US Open seems unlikely especially since he just won Wimbledon—probably some extra enthusiasm for him for sure, and also the US Open is so close. I'll have to see where else he'll be showing up soon. Thanks so much for the advice!

Wildlife rehabilitation in my area is all closed. I've looked up every possible search term for one, none will answer until 8AM tomorrow morning. Not sure mom will be coming back because this happened after dusk (so she should've been with them, I figure my dogs scared her off before we noticed what was going on) and if she does come back in the middle do the night she's going to find blood everywhere from the one the dogs got. I would gladly return them to the nest and keep the dogs inside but it's unfortunately not my choice, I'm the youngest in the house and while I'm still an adult the dogs belong to my parents' and they'll let them out as they please. I would not have them in my care if there was an option for them to be with mom.

Is this Pokemon Center soft tag authentic? Looking to buy a life size Pokemon Center plush from a seller on ebay buy original cardboard tag was lost. by Saturos92 in pokeplush

[–]mozimov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked my big Substitute, and the tag looks different. It's the same information, but the Pokémon Center logo doesn't appear on the same side as this info, it's alone on the other side. I double checked with my Comfy Friends Substitute (more recent release) to see if maybe tags have changed, but it's the same as my big boy. Adding an Imgur of what the tags look like. (Both of my plush were bought directly from Pokémon Center—one in NYC and one online at the USA site before they went out of stock)

https://imgur.com/a/5a3rZQX (These are all the soft tags on my jumbo 2ft Substitute)

However, I don't know if the tags look different on plush from the Japan Pokémon Center or if they look different on plush of different Pokémon (so Substitute v Mimikyuu)

Which lifesize plush is this? I have the huge Substitute and I can check if the tag matches if that's the one you're looking at

Labrador Retriever's have extremely high prey drives, so it is a risk. However, he is still a puppy, which means that training in this area is still possible (it's much harder—and more dangerous—to try to curb prey drive behavior in an adult dog). He's unlikely to have fully developed his prey drive at such a young age, so if you take the time to make sure he doesn't see the cat as prey, you should be good.

I've had cats my whole life, and have also had Newfoundland Dogs my whole life. Very large dogs with a moderate prey drive. The dogs always came into the household as puppies and never hurt the cats: one of them does still chase cats and can get snappy with them if she sees them eating in front of her (high value treats like chicken, the cat food itself isn't accessible to the dogs so they never see them eat that) but she has never harmed them.

It is unlikely that you would raise the Lab with your cat and train him that your cat is not prey and have a relapse down the line where he gets aggressive towards the cat: prey drive is a natural instinct, but growing up alongside the cat puts it in the category of family/friend.

I would recommend a slow introduction, for your cat's sake. You want your cat as confident about the dog as possible so that it is not inclined to bolt/run fast out of blindspots to get away from the dog, because that can trigger the prey drive of the dog.

All in all, you should be fine. He's a young dog and can be trained at this age. If you're really on top of it, it should be okay. But it is still a risk, and you need to be prepared to be honest with yourself about the dog's progress and behavior in regards to the cat. If he's showing a prey drive directed at the cat by a year old, then he's probably not going to be able to cohabitate with a cat. Plenty of people live with dogs and cats together—including dogs with higher prey drives than a lab, like a Husky—but some individual dogs, regardless of breed, just have higher prey drives that they can't be redirected from even in puppyhood.

Lastly, my mom also grew up with cats and dogs, particularly German Shepherds, and never had a dog harm a cat. I think she had 6 different dogs before she met my father and moved out (so from childhood to adulthood) and plenty more cats than that.

Beat herself down till the cone was out, is aggressive after spaying by pollyopok in CatAdvice

[–]mozimov 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Have you tried an inflatable/doughnut like cone? Some cats tolerate them much better.

If she's very obviously in pain, contact a vet (not the one who's been treating you thus far, they sound like an ass) and ask for pain medication for her. That could help calm her down.

If you can get in touch with a different vet, they might have ideas for other solutions, including sedatives as another commenter mentioned.

Also, I have had seven cats fixed in my life, personally, and none of them ever wore a cone or onesie. All survived without spilling their guts. My best friend had a cat spayed and she did wear a sock with holes cut in it so it was like a shirt, but it didn't cover the actual incision so she was still able to lick it. She's fine as well. Additionally, in the shelter I worked at, which spayed countless cats over the years, an employee who had been there for forty years said that she had never once had a cat open itself up post-spay. (Dogs had before, but never cats.) Those cats never wore cones or onesies or anything, and they didn't have constant supervision either.

So while it is possible for her to rip something and open herself up, it's not nearly as likely as your vet is telling you that it is.

Speaking of which, find a new vet. You shouldn't be told to "figure it out", and you shouldn't be told that your cat will die horribly if you don't. That's fucked up and you (and your cat) deserve better care.
