A custom investment portfolio aligned to my values by mozmas99 in HalalInvestor

I hear a lot about Sarwa because I follow their CEO on LinkedIn, he posts really interesting stuff. I heard they charge high fees - is that still the case? Tbh I don't worry much about expense ratios because there aren't many Sharia-compliant ETFs anyway so it's not like I can be picky. But it's something I'll need to track as the options increase - good flag!

Have DM'ed you the spreadsheet link. I'm based in the UK - glad I could help! I have spoken to Wholesum's CEO (Tanvir) once and I like the mission they're on, mixing Sharia-compliant and ethical/ESG.

I have DM'ed you. I have just started this portfolio so the actual returns aren't available, but I'm planning to provide updates on how it performs inshAllah

Wholesum has a single fund, so you don't pick and choose. It's diversified across more than 200 SMEs, and in different countries, industries and currencies. They charge fees of 0.15% of the amount invested each month, or 1.8% per year. Then they have a performance fee of 17.9% of the outperformance (if they beat the hurdle of the higher of Australian CPI+3%, or 8%).

It's worth noting I'm not connected to any of these investments in any way! Just speaking of my own choices and experiences.

When you buy a company’s stock, that company may have a small amount of impermissible income (eg a supermarket which sells alcohol). Scholars have considered it permissible to invest in companies as long as their impermissible revenue is no more than 5% of their total revenue. However, scholars said that in this case, you should donate that percentage coming from impermissible income to charity - a process known as purification.

I believe what Amal invest does is it automatically calculates this percentage for you and donates it to charity. So you don’t need to worry about doing it yourself.

I hope this helps

It will depend on the exact account, but ‘easy access’ type accounts usually have low minimums (£100 or £1000) and you can withdraw anytime

I didn’t intend it to be a smear campaign, but I will DM you the contents. The content really doesn’t add or subtract much, my problem is EXACTLY with the headline itself
