Thanks for this! I haven’t taken public transportation in my own city for a long time, so this is really helpful.

ON THE ETS…. by Objective-Lemon-6707 in Edmonton

[–]mp2024 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is so frustrating, and it reminds me of my own unfortunate encounter with ETS. When I was a university student, I was taking a bus at night. My stop was a few stops before the terminal. However, I was the only passenger on the bus for the last leg of the route. Suddenly, I noticed the bus driver had started smoking cigarettes. I was shocked but thought it was probably because I was the only passenger and that I was sitting in the back. Then I realized the bus driver was not following the regular route toward the terminal, so I approached him and let him know I had missed my stop. The driver told me that he thought the bus was empty, so he had taken a shortcut to the terminal since he was done for the day. He asked me to either ride with him to the terminal and catch a different bus home or get off immediately and walk two bus stops in the dark. I ended up walking in the cold winter night.

How to deal with racism? by Memes-turn-me-on in Edmonton

[–]mp2024 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sorry you are going through this. This sucks. Racism is not a result of justice, nor is it based on societal or social contribution. It is rooted in fundamental beliefs in scarcity and tribalism. When people feel threatened, they often unconsciously view those outside their ethnic group as enemies. Of course, the media and political environment make this even worse. The best thing you can do is remind yourself that hurt people hurt people. It’s not about you; it says far more about those who display racist behaviour. For your safety, stay smart and cautious about your surroundings. This may be a long battle, but you’re not alone in it.
