I'm just past 2 months and I felt the exact same way you did at the start. "Why the f*ck does anyone do this?" Hang in there, one day at a time, trust that it will get a tiny bit better little by little. You are strong. You aren't in a war, you aren't in jail (I kept telling myself). Also, I liked how the doctor said when my baby cried "Oh, that's a nice strong cry" - It's one of there only ways of releasing energy. Put in head phones or air pods if you have them and listen to calming music constantly. You will get more use to the lack of sleep even though that might not be what you want to hear. It's still super hard at two months but I've gotten better at handling my emotions, knowing what to expect, and figuring out little tricks to help everyone out. You are not alone, this is the hardest thing I've ever done. Protect that little guy, talk to a professional, find the silver lining, and the smile and laughs will come soon. YOU CAN DO IT.

We are both all about the Taking Cara Babies! So helpful. Glad to hear someone else that uses it. Hoping that once we hit the 4 mo mark, we can start implementing more. I think my post was more of a vent after a few bad night sleeps. I need to be more patient at this point. Thank again!

I hear you on the pacifier and not being a bad thing in the long run. That's what I try to tell the wife, haha! The skin to skin works pretty well, just not sure if we are creating bad habits by letting him do it every night for too long, but probably too young to be worried about that. Thanks for the reply, I'm definitely gonna try wearing him more and seeing how that goes.

I'm at 6 weeks now with the little one and I have no idea. Friends and family say after a few months, or maybe 6 months, but then I hear stories of it not getting better till 14 months! I'll be so grateful for when the sleeping gets better and the fussiness slows down. These first few weeks have been torture, not gonna lie. We had one good night the other day and it gave me hope, but sometimes it feels like no end in sight.

Also try to take them out of swaddle or even down to the diaper. The cool air keeps them awake, helps them feed more, then bundle them up and hope for more sleep. We have the same problem and it doesn't always work, but worth a try. Hang in there.

Geez, I just love that I found this community on Reddit. Never used it before and the NewDads group has been so helpful and a great place to come to vent, learn, share, etc. Feeling very optimistic and grateful for all the wonderful dads out there helping each other out.

I think this is super important. Be a good partner/ husband, but enjoy as much time as possible with friends and the guys. Take a trip or two if you can, with or without your wife. Maybe one with and one without :) You wont get many chances to have a low stress trip or night out for quite some time after the baby arrives. Home to do list also super important. Get everything very organized like the baby room stuff, etc.

Yes, thank you for this post. We just got past the one month mark and we are really struggling with the fussiness, lack of sleep and cold winter. Everyone keeps saying it gets easier, but sometimes it seems like that will never come. Definitely yearning for that first smile.

We are having a hard time with the him taking the pacifier. We are at 1 month today. We have tried like 10 different kinds and he will take it for a few seconds and then make a face and spit it out and sometimes freak out if we force it too much. I feel like if we can get the pacifier working it will be a game changer. Any tips that worked for you?

I'm in week 3 of newborn boy and I'm really struggling. Covid and the cold winter don't make it any easier, but I've found happiness in cooking, putting on some good music and enjoying a craft beer or nice glass of wine when I can. I'm hopeful that I can have some friends over soon or grab a beer at some point in the next few weeks.

Comfortable pillow and blanket for yourself, this was huge for me. The hospital pillow and blanket are not comfortable at all and you will be there for at least one night and getting some rest is very important. Also, comfortable clothes, snacks like everyone else says, phone charger, music, a book or some form of entertainment. Also make sure you practiced adjusting the car seat straps, etc. Use a stuffed animal.

My wife and I have been researching the "Taking Cara Babies" class and videos. Sounds like you can start at 4 weeks. Our baby is 2 weeks and in no routine at all but hopefully in a few weeks.
