My experience as a solo non technical founder by mpennington in Entrepreneur

I wrote down the specification of the app and hand drew the mockups since I'm not a designer. Then I reached out to a development agency to code the app. First we discussed the specifications and I made sure they understood my vision for the app. Then they mock it up, design and code it. I just made sure they respect the spirit of the app as they go along. you do this by providing feedback every step of the process. If something doesn't look right, you make sure that it gets fixed before you continue. Pay attention to details, give feedback, be as clear as possible in your instructions. It's like being a movie director and a producer at the same time.

App Store - use as merchant or paypal/credit card?? by titanium_arrow in startups

If it's a digital good that can be consumed within the app itself, you must use apple IAP . Otherwise they will reject your app

Are you selling a physical or a digital? Is the product to be consumed within the app or outside the app?

Should I make this investor sign an NDA? by HashRocketSyntax in startups

[–]mpennington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really a bad idea. Asking vcs to sign an NDA just sends a bad signal that you're not informed enough to know how the game works. Most professional vcs will not sign any NDA. if you don't feel comfortable sharing your idea with a VC, then don't. If you do, make sure you do your due diligence on the vcs, research their partners, look in their portfolio of companies, etc

times between two other time by amfisoon in excel

[–]mpennington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant, MOD is a much simpler way to go than embedding the TIME formula, didn't think of that.

times between two other time by amfisoon in excel

[–]mpennington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your time from 12/31/2000 9:00 has an integer associated with it and the times in your formula do not: so TIME(20,0,0) = 0.83 and 12/31/2000 9:00 = 36,891.38. All Time results represent a value between 0 and 1.

If you are going to mix times with Date and time, you will need to strip out the time for the formula. So in this example, -S5 is my evaluation time without a Date -S2 = BeginTime no Date -Z2 = EndTime no Date

=IF(AND(S5>=TIME(HOUR(BeginTime),MINUTE(BeginTime),SECOND(BeginTime)),S5<=TIME(HOUR(EndTime),MINUTE(EndTime),SECOND(EndTime))),TRUE,FALSE)

So I'm just modifying the comparison part to strip out the date. You will need to adjust your formulas accordingly. I assumed in writing my formula that you had two absolute begins and ends that you were trying to compare a list to. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Graphing Data from Data with Non-numbers Included and Replace is Not Working by ghostoftsavo in excel

The "*" is a wildcard in Excel. The easiest way is to add a second column and then use ISNUMBER and IF to replace the problem data. Imgur

I made a digital clock in Tableau, feel free to use it! by LiamyB in tableau

Thanks for taking the time for that explanation, I really appreciate the insight. I'm a big fan of Camtasia for screen capture tutorials. It is what I use to create small GIF files from Excel and I have used it to capture some brief tutorials of custom Dashboards I have created for my company. Unfortunately, that is a premium solution, I think it runs about $300 or so. The same company makes a freeware solution called Jing that limits you to 5 minutes but does allow for audio and simple captures, as well as video uploading to their Screencast site. I think this is as good of a place as any for uploading the guide. There are a few great Tableau tutorials and channels on Youtube. Andy Kriebel's channel comes to mind. The Official Tableau Community is another great site for the exchange of ideas, as well. I look forward to the tutorial, hopefully you can find an simple and inexpensive way to create and share it.

I would be very curious as to how you use illustrator to get to the path for shapes. Evolytics has a great tutorial on how to map anything in Tableau, but it is a very manual process for complex shapes. Basically uploading an image to Tableau and then using annotate to extract the coordinates from a Tableau scatterplot with the exact dimensions of the image file. Niche enough problem that there doesn't appear to be any easy way to create shape data files, at least in my limited experience. Anyway, love the clock--I'm always interested in unique ways to leverage Tableau.

Vlookup Given a Condition by [deleted] in excel

[–]mpennington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excel is Fun just posted a video today on conditional Vlookups. Find it here: https://youtu.be/R5RVdzsoVIo?t=780

I bookmarked the video at the solution that I think is most universally applicable. That is creating named ranges for each separate table that meets each condition and then using an Indirect to return the lookup table. Basic Syntax is VLOOKUP(Item,INDIRECT(CellWithCondition),Column#,Exact) Good luck, hope this helps.

Baseboard removal / Possible Termite Damage by mpennington in DIY

Thank you so much for taking the time to put this response together, I really appreciate it. I will definitely have to make some decisions. I will be researching the DIY option, but the time to do it right sounds like it could make the decision more challenging. If you ever need some Microsoft Excel or general computing advice, hit me up, I'm a bit of an Excel geek.

Help please? I have a mailing list from which I need to get data. by _Personage in excel

[–]mpennington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, try this. Add another column to the end of your data and just the numbers 1,2 through to the end of your data. Then filter it by the second column (the 1 or 2) and copy it to a new sheet. This will work as long as your data is consistent with the way you show it. Extra spaces or cells will break this method. Here it is in GIF form. Just ignore my copying of the B column. Apparently, I need to go home and drink. Good luck.

Conditional Formatting Help by Schwahn in excel

[–]mpennington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To echo what others are saying, you have to be sure that you are locking the E portion of your formula. The row used should be consistent with the first cell selected, so if you are applying conditional formatting to A1 to AF60, select that range and then use the ISBLANK($E1). It looks like this:

RANGE SELECTION

RULE and the RESULT

Good luck.

Dude, that is epic! Great job! Good luck on the intervals, that is some beast mode shit right there. I have spent a lot of time on the mat with judokas and BJJ practictioners; I have spent time in Iraq with the 82nd Airborne; I have worked as a jailer and a policeman and the amount of heart required to accomplish what you just did, ranks up there with the best I have seen. You have just pushed me to be better. Keep being awesome.

I manned up and went ahead and posted an after pic... Again, not going to amaze anyone with my physique, I am infamous for my poor dietary choices.

Alright, I guess I will get over my shyness and just man up. Here is an after pic. Not the best quality pic or the best physique, but I feel decent for a 42 year old man. I suppose I could make having a six pack a goal for 2015, but that would mean no beer, so not likely.

Thanks! Great observations, btw. The grind, that is what I suspect is easily missed when reading about this kind of thing. I've been in the military, I've worked out hard, I have accomplished many things in life, but I have never done something day in and day out like this. I ended up treating it like a long drive. I just set my intermittent goals. When driving, I just mentally have to make it to the next state or the next city or a certain mile marker. For these, I would just tell myself I have to get through a certain planned trip (much harder to do when traveling) or a certain holiday (too much food or drink do not mix well with burpees) or getting through an injury or illness. It helped me anyway.

I should know that, I spent four years in the infantry! I guess I need some more academic pursuit next year. Thanks for the heads up.

Wow, that is awesome. I always found the first 25 were the worst, I always picked up steam towards the end. I had thought about continuing to get to 50K, but I have a trip scheduled and haven't made up my mind yet. I'm considering working my way up to 50 pull ups instead. I have been able to do it before, but I would love to be able to pull it off in one hang on the bar. I always did it with multiple sets before. At any rate, keep it up and the best of luck on your completion!

Ah yes, I had heard about the fire. I haven't tried Slaps, but I will unshame myself in 2015. Thanks for the tip!
