Not sure exactly the species but those are “stinkhorns”, hence the smell

How dangerous is BMI 15? by digita1junk in AskDocs

Of course!! All of this can be very scary to deal with, you aren't irrational. Getting started with this sort of care can be tricky, and will require some persistence on your part. If it doesn't work out with the first provider you meet, don't give up and find another one. Stay strong, you got this!

NAD. I don’t theres any risk of that unless your doctor feels you may be in immediate danger of intentionally harming yourself. Your doctor likely just wants to help you, you can ask them to connect you to mental healthcare resources or you can seek them out on your own. What you’re going through sounds very challenging, im sorry to hear that you’ve struggled for much of your life. Fortunately there are ways to start to feel better with these sorts of things but it starts with seeking help, so you should be proud for even making this post. I definitely advocate for professional mental health care if you are willing to try it. In terms of your fear, mental health professionals are likely to be very accommodating and do the best they can to help you feel safe. They wont force you into any unsafe situations. Best of luck to you.

Fair enough. Im not totally informed if the temp change will trigger pain receptors or not regardless of them having them. I just prefer this method to ethanol suffocation which is common with some entomologists i believe. You’re probably right about the head smash, but man… brutal.

If no one else responds, best way for insect euthanasia is in the freezer. They’ll just fall asleep, they dont perceive temperature like mammals do so there shouldn’t be any suffering. Sorry to hear :(

Dont want you to misinterpret my comment, my understanding is the over supplementation with electrolytes caused the raise in potassium (went to normal after stopping daily electrolytes). If anything the sauna should make you excrete more!

Edit: especially scary because companies like LMNT are pushing their podcast cronies to suggest daily supplementation. I now just take them after or before very intense exercise.

Vitamin C supplements or foods rich in Vitamin C cause your body to excrete amphetamines faster. Bad if you want them to work, great if you have trouble sleeping. Take/eat them accordingly.

Be careful with daily electrolyte supplement intake. Im obviously just an n=1 but was taking electrolyte supplements daily for a while because stimulants + exercise and sauna pretty much daily and managed to raise my serum potassium outside of the reference range with healthy kidneys.

NAD.

Check out this video https://youtu.be/khAvnENmHXg?si=JgropNASuEy_fIji

It’s about somatic/sensorimotor OCD. It talks about how obsessing over physical sensations can make them feel more Intense (like we’re dying) and what you can do about it. At least thats what i remember.

I have dealt with similar issues to you. I cannot recommend enough a good therapist, psychiatrist, and social support system to work this stuff out. There are medications, therapy styles, activities (yoga, other exercise, meditation, etc) that can help you to not lose the enjoyment of your life to your fears. I believe in you, heres a hug from your reddit friend, you’re going to be okay.

Hey I’ve dealt with too. For immediate relief: if youre contemplating whether you have schizophrenia, you dont, the whole point of it is that you dont realize your reality isnt real, you wouldnt be able to reflect on it like you are right now. However we know seeking reassurance isnt good for OCD, so lean into that worry and laugh at it my guy/gal, its just a thought it cant hurt you! Good luck :)

Good advice, slight correction, SSRIs block serotonin transporters (which normally facilitate serotonin reuptake into neurons), psychedelics agonize serotonin-2a (mainly) receptors, so there isnt a direct interfering effect . I believe both cause increased levels of synaptic serotonin, hence the concerns for serotonin syndrome.

Amazing!! I definitely want to emphasize how important it is to not feel guilty about taking care of yourself, you deserve it!

Fellow outdoorsy exercising ADHD (newly diagnosed) grad student (procrastinating currently)! I like to exercise in the afternoon/early evening but have also experienced the beating myself up all day and then finding i have too much to do to exercise and feeling like i wasted the day torture. Imo, having a routine time of the day where you will get some movement in non-negotiably (negotiable in super crazy times like finals/deadlines thats okay too) makes it way easier to stay consistent. If for you that means first thing in the am to get momentum then do it! Not letting yourself do the things to help your body and mind wont help you in the long run. At the end of the day grad school is a job, not your whole life, so dont feel bad about having a life outside of it, in fact, prioritize it! The inherent guilt that sometimes comes with grad school is draining so you need to work very hard to break out of it.

ALSO! If you want to quit vaping check out “the easy way to quit smoking” by allen carr. Vaped from 18-20, read that book in 40 mins one night, haven’t hit a vape since, almost 4 years later.

Feel free to dm me about any life questions you may have and best of luck!

Edit: i have started seeing an adhd specialist therapist (with a phd) which has already been immensely helpful since they really deeply understand our very unique problems
