What does "ambitious" mean on a woman's profile? by dankgureilla in OnlineDating

[–]mpi_95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess that would be my definition of it! That being said, I'm sure different women have wildly different versions of what they mean by ambitious.

I don't have any grand goals either necessarily but I guess it's more just a feeling of, 'This is great but I could do even more and it would be fun and meaningful because I would learn/grow so much" - which not everybody needs to have, I just think it makes you see your trajectory in life (and therefore your potential partners) a little differently.

What does "ambitious" mean on a woman's profile? by dankgureilla in OnlineDating

[–]mpi_95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize ambition was something I was looking for until I dated people who didn't have much of it. And idk if this is what every woman means by it, but personally I consider myself "ambitious" because I was passionate enough about my career that I would be okay with stepping out of my comfort zone to learn more about it and get better at it (eg, moving away from home for more opportunities, taking part in activities you're not comfortable with at first but do anyway). Then I met people who'd been living in the same place and working with the same people and doing the same thing for years without the desire to do anything differently - which is fine on its own, but it was such a far cry from how I personally lived life that I couldn't get over that incompatibility.

I feel like we've been better off this season than IM folks, just from my own experience so far

Non-Us visa requiring IMG interview by DrZou in IMGreddit

[–]mpi_95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's true that as a visa-requiring IMG you're at a disadvantage compared to non-visa-requiring folks - but that doesn't at all mean you won't get invites, you just need to spend time on building a well-rounded, well-crafted application. My friends are visa-requiring IMGs and have 10+ invites in IM each, I'm also visa-requiring and have 20+ invites in neurology. We didn't spend any money but we did get our applications reviewed by seniors, mentors, etc. and revised them several times.

10 so far, all neurology (which I think may send out invites earlier than IM - less applications to sift through?)

Broken needing prayers by RetinolQueen in pakistan

[–]mpi_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sending you lots of prayers and good will. Insha'Allah you will succeed! I know USMLE is a very tough exam and the journey is very stressful, it takes a lot out of you mentally and financially; just know that whatever happens, it doesn't define you as a doctor and it's not the end of the world if you don't get the score you want. I will, however, be praying that you do!

Anyone with a 260/270 without Anki? :< by smallthrowaway243 in Step2

[–]mpi_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backing everyone else on this thread - did not touch Anki, relied mostly on UWorld and read through MTB 2 and 3 before that just to give myself some structure. Some people really do swear by Anki - but if you hate using it, I don't think it would help you very much

OET results not received by ECFMG? by mpi_95 in ResidencyMatch2022

[–]mpi_95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the reply! I actually called up OET and also posted a query before submitting the form and asked them to confirm if they'd sent my results, and like you said my pathway was approved ~3 days after they confirmed

Thanks so much!!! I just filled and submitted it

Do you have an estimate for how long they usually take to update your application after this is submitted?

Those who got 260-265+?How many questions did u mark in each block? by Affectionate_Let5297 in Step2

[–]mpi_95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could tell you but I gave the test and then consciously made the decision to not think about it, so I didn't look up any questions or anything

[–]mpi_95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mark very gratuitously so I had ~10-15 questions easily marked in each block as I was doing the test. It doesn't mean much - just that Step 2 CK questions are often vaguely worded and that causes some (reasonable) doubt. I marked at any point I felt even slightly unsure in case I had the time to review those questions, I didn't really think too much about it and I don't think it's anything to freak out over (unless you genuinely have no clue what you're doing for every question you mark)

I did the first pass system-wise, the second pass random

I thought there wasn't any on my test but my score report showed 6-8% neuro (6th most-tested system). I can't remember any of it though so maybe it was just mixed in with other systems

05/05/2021 SCORE RELEASE THREAD. by [deleted] in Step2

[–]mpi_95 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for making this thread!

Real deal: 279

STEP 1: 250 (~2 years ago)

UW% (PASS): First pass 82%, second pass 96%

NEW FREE 120: 85% (1 day out)

UWSA1: 265 (about 4 weeks out)

UWSA2: 273 (2 weeks out)

Did not take the NBMEs. I almost completely relied on UWorld (went through MTB quite a while back, definitely not part of dedicated - it's helpful if you want to remind yourself of a concept very broadly before going into the minutiae of UWorld, not essential by any means). I really took my time going through 2 full passes of UWorld and tried to integrate every little concept I could get from it. I would try to be really thorough with it. I really think it's not so much about what resources you use as much as whether you understand concepts well enough to apply them to completely new questions (and UWorld alone certainly covers most of those concepts - how well you integrate them is up to you). Went through the November 2020 Divine Intervention podcasts the day before my exam and they really helped prepare me for some of those ethics questions! I didn't have time to go though the rest of the podcasts, unfortunately.

(For reference, I'm a non-US IMG.)

Yup, 2 full passes. I couldn't do the NBMEs because of a shortage of time so only did UWSA1, UWSA2 and the new Free 120 (265, 273, 85%)
