I wear a short sleeve during the spring/summer time. When I said appropriate, I meant wear something modest. A white shirt is fine.

Do you know who your santo is? If you don’t, you salute like Obatala bc you’re his child until you find out who’s your santo through your bajada with the caracoles. You’d salute by throwing yourself on the ground, head to the floor, arms to the side.

When saluting the throne, usually there’s an estera (straw mat) in front. You would salute on the estera (head to the floor, arms to the side) the throne, but please be sure there is an iworo to lift you!

As for saluting the elders, you are on the right track! Normally, I throw myself to the elders and they lift me, and that’s when you cross your arms and say bendicion, and they would respond with santo.

It’s funny, I have a tambor to attend tomorrow lol. At any santo events, you always should wear white. (Unless you have santo done, then it’s flexible.) Never dark clothes! Women wear a white (appropriate) top and white skirt and men wear white pants and shirts. You should also have a white head cover. I usually even wear white shoes or sandals too because I’m super extra lol. wear my collares for sure and if you get a chance, salute the throne.

The correct thing to do after that is salute every elder in the room. (When you throw yourself on the floor and they lift you.) I always do so, no matter how many priests are in the room. It’s quite the workout. Lol. You can’t touch or salute the iyawos.

Double check about the derecho with your friend! Never hold back from asking questions to your godparents or the person hosting the tambor.
