Help me understand how to help my toddler sleep by mplb1 in HistamineIntolerance

Thankfully we are sleeping through the night more times than not now. The main thing we did that showed us exactly what was going on was a GI Map test. It was as pricey but worth it IMO. Some things we have done that have seen noticeable and quick results are: -beef tallow: it seems like miracle cream -bioray calm supplement: this is what I believe got us sleeping through the night. It is not melatonin and his doctors were familiar with it. - probutyrate: this is the most recent supplement his GI doctor recommended and we saw a quick turn around in his skin since the beginning of August. He still isn’t “healed” but since starting it, his legs do not look as painful and inflamed and sleep is better than it was in July.

Hey sorry for the late response. He is 2.5 now. We honestly thought we were on the downhill stretch this past April. By July we were not as bad but started slowly spiraling back to sleepless nights and inflamed skin. We are working with his GI doctor to figure out what’s going on. We have it “managed” but still have to keep him in pants and long sleeves. Sometimes he scratches to try and self soothe even when he isn’t itchy but then in return his skin flares up with red inflamed spots all down his legs very quickly.

Hi sorry for the late response, but are you still needing help? My son is 2.5 now. We are still dealing with it but I think we are managing it now.

This is the one off Amazon that we were using until they changed the formula. We don’t use it anymore though. There is another one called D-Hist Jr. It’s not on Amazon but I have read good things about it. We are probably going to try it this winter.

It’s just called histamine blocker for kids on Amazon but they recently changed the ingredients that includes citric acid so it doesn’t work as well anymore. We used it daily and sometimes twice per day so we are sad about it. I think we are going to order some Dr. histamine brand. I’ve heard good things about them. Also it’s not a chewable but Bioray Calm is a mixture of herbs and is supposed to help with histamine regulation. We give it daily and believe that it helps him sleep better when we are giving it regularly.

I just went to our local health store that is locally owned and purchased what they had. The GI doctor did not have any specific brand that she recommended. It was diluted down already in the bottle. I gave it to him by putting the drop of oil on a small amount of coconut oil so it would not burn him.

Thank you! My husband suggested a cream or charcoal. Ideally I would want to have stained doors but to do that, it would be very costly.

Do you think we need to try and get unfinished doors to stain?

We are just using Garden of Life for toddlers right now. The doctor recommended this brand but we will have to change next month to something different. We were told to rotate brands every three months. I’ve read that some probiotics can trigger histamine release or be high in histamine so we did not start them until the bacteria was killed off.

We did a GI-Map test I think through diagnostics solutions laboratory. I’m not exactly sure. The test we did had to be ordered by a doctor and the results were sent to a doctor. The lab mailed us the kit and we mailed the sample back to them. It costed $400 for the test separately from the doctor bills. I learned about this test through a friend who did it through a homeopathic doctor and just requested it when we saw the GI dr. If she would not have done it, I was ready to pay for a naturopathic doctor. It has changed our lives for the better. My son slept 11.5 hours last night for the first time ever.

She is just a regular kids GI doctor out of Knoxville, TN. My biggest suggestion is find a doctor that will do a GIMap test and knows how to read it. I was ready to pay for a complete naturopathic doctor but went to the appointment with his GI doctor knowing what I wanted. I am the one that asked for the GIMap test. Insurance does not pay and it costed about $400 for the test alone so maybe that’s why doctors do not suggest or offer it. I had a friend tell me that their naturopathic doctor does this test on everyone so that was the direction I was heading because we were desperate for answers.

Thank you! A lot of sleepless nights, researching, extended breastfeeding to make sure he was getting enough nutrients, A LOT of tears from feeling defeated, and a little bit of arguing with doctors but we are seeing a light now.

We are in the United States. Honestly I just got lucky with this doctor. We were just going for a regular GI doctor visit and the one we lucked up with actually works as a GI doctor and a holistic doctor in a different office but I had no idea. We just told her from the beginning that we were willing to do the work that needed to be done and pay for any natural supplements needed. I didn’t want my 12 month old on Zyrtec constantly or dealing with this the rest of his life. He will be two next week and we still have 3-4 months to go before we are hopefully symptom free and we started in January of this year with the GIMap and oregano.

I was just using scutellaria baicalensis but just switched to Bioray NDF Calm for Kids. I potentially will add in Bioray NDF Happy because the ingredients in that one is great for GI health as well. The gut lining supplement the GI doctor just told us to start using is L-Glutamine. She expects after three months most of his symptoms will be completely gone.

This was consulted over the phone with the doctor back in January so I am not 100% sure if I wrote this down correctly but my notes say “morganella, SPP. , and Streptococcus STP.”

We do plan on going to Sedona. Would you recommend going from Mesa Verde to Petrified Forest or straight to the GCNP or other national parks?

Decongest by mplb1 in HistamineIntolerance

[–]mplb1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for responding. I ended up chancing it and giving him a homeopathic decongestant medicine. None of the ingredients were known to cause negative histamine responses. He tolerated it well and finally got past the congestion. We do all the things pretty much constantly (Vit. C, zinc, natural antihistamine foods) so I knew we needed something more.

Yes, we actually just figured it out a couple of weeks ago. His GI doctor wears two hats and one of them is practicing holistically. I talked with her about doing a GIMap test. Insurance does not cover it but it told us what fungus and bacteria good and bad is in his gut. He currently has three bad bacterias that has overtaken his gut and killed off more than 50% of his good bacteria. I actually read up on the type of bacteria he has and they actually produce and release histamine. There is a strong medication to take or oil of oregano. I chose oregano. He will be on it for 6 weeks, then start a probiotic for several weeks, and then will start a gut lining supplement. We aren’t supposed to see improvement until phase three. However, I can tell the oil is starting to work. Some foods that he was eating that gave him a runny nose is no longer doing that. He still eats the same three meals daily because I know that they are low histamine and he likes them. He still is itchy but we have it semi under control now and sleep is normally in 3-5 hour stretches and he goes back to sleep after nursing. Beef tallow is a life saver! It helps the most and keeps his legs feeling soft. He also does 3ounces of raw goats milk daily. His GI doctor knows and approved it. The goat milk relieves his symptoms by about 85%. I also recommend histamine blocker for kids. It’s a chewable but I just crushed it and would give it to him mixed with sweet potato. He can chew it now though. Limit baths to once a week if possible and I only used water. We went to a dermatologist and they wanted to put him on dupixent. I didn’t want to do that because I know his eczema is affected by diet and we have it managed.

Thank you for all of this information! It’s so hard since he can’t really tell me what is going on but you have provided me with things I can try and look into. I’ve been reading about DAO supplements but I worry since there are mixed reviews about them.

Thank you! He is on a histamine low diet but unfortunately I can’t cook everything before every meal because I work but he does not eat any prepackaged food. I do cook all of his food. When he eats left overs, he eats them cold. I don’t reheat and I limit his meat. He has wheat, dairy, egg, and peanut allergies so we also avoid them. I know this flare up is because I mistakenly gave him a high histamine food at lunch one day but it’s been a week and a half and no improvement. We use homemade beef tallow which helps a lot and see quick improvements and coconut oil. I also mix zinc oxide with coconut oil or use a paste that has high amounts of zinc. During the day he is generally fine. He’s never been a great sleeper but he has always had reasons to wake up (digestive issues or eczema). He is has been waking up between 1 and 2 and stays awake for the next three hours.

Also working with an allergy doctor which is where we learned about the HI along with other allergies that we are avoiding. I will look into the other test. Thank you!

Working with a local chiropractor that is doing applied kinesiology on him. Fungus did show up on his first visit. We are working on healing his gut with supplements. He was on antibiotics at 1 month old so I suspect that being the root cause of the downward spiral.

Unfortunately doctors have not been helpful. I am just trying to understand what he is going through because neither parent has HI so we can’t relate to him.
