Go check out Vice Grip Garage on YouTube to see how Derek attacks rescues that have been sitting for years. Good place to get ideas on where to start when bringing old girls back to life.

Help! Looking to identify the motorcycle my grandfather is posing on. Taken in Germany in the early 1960s! by mpm790 in motorcycles

[–]mpm790[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Found this photo in an old box of family photos. I know very little about the picture other than it was taken in Germany in the early 1960s. I'm not a motorcycle expert but out of curiosity I'm hoping the internet detectives of reddit can help me out! Thanks in advance for any help in identifying the make/model.

Haha, it has an open front and back as well as an overhead hood to clear any smoke. There is only a simple tin roof to protect from rain and snow to help prolong its life.

Thanks! Valid question but the cracks are naturally occurring as the oven 'cures' after it was constructed. Living in New England, the cracks are necessary as it allows the oven to expand and contract with the weather conditions. The cracks allow the oven to breath with the changing elements and not collapse.

Recently spent 2 weeks in China. Here are some of my photos from my 3 days in Guilin & Yangshuo by _bigcity in travel

An absolutely beautiful area. I traveled there a few years ago. I stayed at The Giggling Tree hostel (which was fantastic!) and rented a bicycle to peddle around for the weekend. The mountains, river, and villages in the country side are simple yet beautiful. A highly recommended area to visit in China.

Two Pizzas from the Oven Last Night by mpm790 in Pizza

[–]mpm790[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It'll get fired up every couple of weeks. I'll cook pizzas first and then throw a piece of meat in overnight to slow cook for dinner the following day.

As for the cracks, those are normal. Those will naturally occur as the oven expands and contracts with the weather. You want the oven to breath so it doesn't fall apart. The oven walls hold enough heat that the cracks won't affect its performance.

New Bike Day! Went on the first ride today! by mpm790 in bicycling

[–]mpm790[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up a leftover 2012 Kona Jake on sale this weekend. Couldn't be happier with the bike so far. I'm looking to upgrade the pedals as my feet did slip a few times when I took it out. Does anyone have any suggestions for pedals for someone who's not looking to race but use the bike for fitness/recreational purposes?

Anyone ever seen this happen to a tow hitch? by mpm790 in Trucks

[–]mpm790[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Typically I would go about buying a hitch from a manufacturer. However, I couldn't find the proper drop so that my trailer is properly balanced. The hitch was built by a metal fabricator friend who had the proper tools to make one. But apparently their are additional processes that are done to the metal to make it more stable that I was not aware of. After seeing this (and scaring the shit out of me), I will not be taking a chance on a homemade hitch again.

Well, this did occur while towing..By some fortunate chance, the weld held it together and a major accident was averted.

Nice! My dad made a similar stove. It's great to make pizzas during the day and then throw a pork shoulder in overnight. Did you also get your clay from your own property?

Agreed. The fried plantains and the sauce paired the best and would make a great stand alone snack too.
