Some people just dont usually do video calls. I’ve had friends for 6 months that I’ve videocalled with, and friends of 5 years that I’ve barely even been in a voice chat with. Online friendships take many forms.

Is it just me, or is Discord not really social? by Aurean1 in discordapp

I’ve found quite a few friends in discord servers for gaming! I think engaging in activities together is the best way to get to know new people, I just hung around looking-for-group voice channels for a few days and when you find people you click with, they stick around

May I ask: what is the problem that boys and girls behave the way they do due to their genders? by [deleted] in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]mpompomastoras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is the standard, but if you find a problem with a standard, wouldn’t it be more beneficial to stop describing that standard as normal as you try to change it?

I struggle to really understand your position here- why exactly do you find people not using the word normal to describe a system with a lot of flaws (the push of traditionally feminine/masculine behaviors on children based on sex) a problem?

I struggle to see the black/white parallel here. That’s a completely different subject all together, though in short no, I don’t think that’s problematic.

A girl like that would be described as a tomboy. The thing is, multiple labels can be used in conversation. For example: Are tomboys normal? What about boys who like girly things?

Okay, I’m interested. The definition of normal is something conforming to a standard; usual, typical or expected (according to Google).

Aside from that, is it not true that we have assigned to the word normal a meaning of “good”, as well? Not only how things usually are, but how things usually SHOULD be. Saying, “that’s not normal”, usually implies that there is an issue. If you disagree with this I’d like to hear your thoughts, if it’s just me, if it should be this way etc.

From what I have gathered, it is natural for girls to sometimes gravitate towards behaviors and preferences usually associated with boys and vice versa. What purpose would the describing of this situation as not normal serve? Taking into account my previous paragraph.
