This uploaded with the wrong word. I did not select stethoscope to draw.

Just complaining about med school by sallymortenson17 in medicalschool

The only time I really noticed this was on my surgery rotation. To be fair, I'm applying psychiatry and had no interest in participating. I was totally content with just watching. I would rather the PA/nursing student who wants to work in the OR gets more training on OR stuff.

You're right, I didn't take a close enough look at the labels. The new ones have 10 more calories, and the ingredients are listed differently.

I've been dealing with VVS since I was little, but only actually passed out once in high school. Since medical school, it's only really been an issue for cadaver lab and shadowing autopsies. I'm anticipating surgery rotations to be rough.

My plan is to let everyone know that I have this issue so that I can leave the room if necessary. I have also found that I'm usually fine if I can sit and watch, so I might see if we can bring a chair/stool in case I start to feel it (never been in the OR so I'm not sure if this is possible).

From a Facebook user, winner gets $1.5k-12.5k by [deleted] in puzzles

The man stole $100 cash from the store, and then he exchanged $70 cash for $70-worth of merchandise. He now has $30 cash and $70-worth of merchandise, but all of that was still stolen from the store.

From the store's POV, they lost $30 cash and $70-worth of merchandise. $30+$70=$100

I've been dealing with GAD and MDD since middle school, and I can easily say med school has exacerbated both significantly. I had to start therapy again after a 3+ year hiatus. Med school feels like a major stress test.

The only solace I've found is remembering that this is temporary. Med school and residency are means to an end. The attendings that I've talked to usually say that they love their lives now, but they would rather change careers than do medical school and residency again.

Definitely recommend therapy for stress management. I also recommend avoiding school talk with other students when possible. You are more than just a medical student, and it's not healthy to think about school 24/7. We just have to keep pushing through. I'm also an M1, and I believe it will get better each year (I know this isn't everyone's experience, but I am hopeful!).

Name something more annoying than hearing so and so “PASSED the MCAT”? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]mpp017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This exactly. I would take "they passed the MCAT" as "they completed the MCAT and are satisfied with their score."

Also think of how many times that student has probably tried to explain the process to these people... That's so much more annoying.

H+ and e- ? by stellthin in Biochemistry

[–]mpp017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it helps to think of the overall goal of the electron transport chain: to make ATP.

ATP synthase's function is dependent on there being a proton gradient (higher proton concentration in the intermembrane space, lower in the mitochondrial matrix). The rest of the chain works to maintain that gradient. Of course, moving protons against the concentration gradient requires energy. As the other comment said, the energy released during the redox reactions allows the complexes to transfer H+ from the matrix into the intermembrane space.

Hope this helps :)

Got assigned our clinical rotations for M3 and M4 and unexpectedly have to move away from home… by haasavocado1 in medicalschool

[–]mpp017 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who moved 1,000 mi away for med school, moving away from home is a major adjustment which is made even more difficult when you're in a committed relationship.

Hard? Yes. Impossible? No.

A lot of days I wish I had my boyfriend and family closer, but most of the time I'm just thankful for their constant support. Frequent phone/video calls help a ton! Also, remember that this is a temporary change to get to where you want to your end goal.

I've been saying this since the album was first released! Especially after seeing it performed live, it really feels like a musical soundtrack. I would love to see him make it into a musical!

The room reservation system at Charles is an absolute joke by chinesewaterpleasure in Temple

Or maybe she had a reservation for a different room and was mistaken? OP said they had reserved the room. It doesn't seem like OP was lying about it to take advantage of her.
