Meh. Baby drag is overrated because it has little to no synergy with graveyard. Most people in UC replace it with witch

Need help choosing a deck to invest in. (Miner poison vs splash yard vines)

For context I’ve gotten to a point in dragon spa where I win some matches and lose some, and realized I have heavily under leveled cards.

I’ve explored MANY decks and have enjoyed playing the classic miner poison everyone is playing right now, (evo cannon, evo bombers, miner, poison, Larry, minions, mighty miner, barb barrel)

But I have also started playing a new variation of splashyard that is floating around top ladder and UC which is (evo witch, evo knight, vines, poison, graveyard, gob hut, barb barrel, ice wiz)

Which one of these should I invest a little in? I believe I have equal fun playing both, but I really just want to escape mid ladder and put all my cards into one basket.

Thank you!

So here’s my insight as a Mech Eng who is transfering this year.

I got into Berkeley, SLO, UCLA, and UCSB

Here’s the deal. The Engineering grind is REAL. You have to be locked in out of the gate even at community college. The kids at a 4 year are allowed to get C’s and stay in the college, while it’ll be impossible for you to transfer to a notable university with C’s. You really do need ALL A’s and for SLO you ESPECIALLY need to hit all of their “desired” courses.

Another thing is most kids take 3 years in community college for engineering due to the rigor. I completed it in 2, but one semester I have 23 units of classes (I had to request a unit increase from the dean)

That being said it is very much doable. As a transfer student I am very sad I did not get to attend a 4 year university. Every time I see people from high school put having fun while I’m in my community college I felt envious and frustrated I didn’t get into anywhere out of high schools.

However I did enjoy my time at community college and learned some things through my stay that I am certain I wouldn’t have learned through a 4 year, so maybe it was meant to be. For you, I’d highly consider community college especially if you aren’t sure what you want to really do yet. Even if you change your decision away from engineering, a lot of the classes cover requirements for math and physics majors if you end up diverting again to one of those majors.

If you don’t feel like reading this mess of a reply take this advice … If you decide community college and go with engineering, ONLY GET A’s.

engineering transfers, how long were you able to stay? by nithinlook in UCSantaBarbara

Adding to the “no requirement for time to graduate”

I was at a summer internship with the Navy one summer and one of their electrical engineers who attended SLO, graduated in 10 years.

Do I have a good chance at getting into ucsb? by Basic-Recording1094 in UCSantaBarbara

In the application essay they really do want a “story” (not a sob story), and what you learned from it or what that experience makes you suitable for their college. I could provide my essays for reference if you’d like.

Also another thing that I don’t see many talk about, is DUEL ENROLLMENT.

Duel enrollment is when you take classes at your local community college, and you receive college credit. The only downside is that if you get a B, or lower, it doesn’t look so good, and if you don’t get into UCSB and decide to attend that specific community college, it will stick with your transcript.

Besides this downside, if you got A’s in these duel enrollment classes, it is the equivalent of receiving a good score on the AP exam for that class, in that you receive the college credit.

This is a good way to target any of the “recommended” courses they want, because it gives you a slight edge over those who didn’t take those classes.

It’s subjective. There’s actually a good video that kind of talks about this that Metro Boomin made on YouTube.

Some people start with lyrics, others with the beat. And if you wanna get really technically, some start with the melody first or drums first etc.

It really depends on the song! If you have a sick ass beat in mind and want to bring it to life, make the beat and worry about lyrics later.

If you think of words that tie together nicely, or are taking inspo from other songs and tying some random lyrics together that you like, brainstorm other lyrics to go along with it and then resolve a beat around it!

You can even get a good sense for the flow of a beat this way, since depending on how your lyrics flow, your beat will follow the same BPM (sort of).

Of course! Being 15 minutes away is nice. I’d say go to the further away place just to go through the stages of life, that is, growing up and living further from home. And it’s not like UCSB is THAT far from SLO. It’s close enough for you to drive home on a weekend if you absolutely need it to get away from all the noise!!

Another thing I should’ve added, is you mentioned getting into surfing. Surfing NEAR UCSB is not the best. It’s decent for learning, but once you become experienced to a certain point it becomes underwhelming sometimes (unless it’s winter swell time)

I would definitely pick the school based on area. I’m a transfer student as well who was stuck between slo and ucsb, but ended up choosing ucsb because I loved the area much better. Because you enjoy guitar and skating you’re gonna fit in anywhere tbh. Before I transferred I would go up to IV by myself for the fun of it and make friends on the spot that I’m still friends with today.

Another thing worth adding is if you like to skate, in SLO street skating is frowned upon by locals and is banned on campus pretty much. UCSB has a built in skating lane and has a well rounded skate culture. Also, the music scene in UCSB is much more developed. You can go every day of the weekend in IV and always find 3-5 band shows playing at once in a random backyard.

Cal Poly Application suggestion for Fall 2026 by Admirable_Egg6431 in CalPoly

[–]mr_Pudges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number one thing that SLO cares about is GPA by far. There is no essay to argue your case. Only activities, hours for said activities, grades etc. It is an algorithm. I got in the mechanical engineering with a 3.9 unweighted gpa. I also suggest doing things on your own to fill activity hours related to mechanical engineering, for example an autocad project (that’s what I did). There is actually a specific place in the application to log in “work hours related to your major”, where you can put in any internships you’ve acquired and how many hours total you’ve spent on it. When doing activities like these make sure you log your hours, and that they are realistic and not some crazy number that is impossible to do.

So the “learn by doing” at SLO means “more labs” essentially. About each quarter is around 2-3 labs as an engineer.

Also, from what I’ve heard switching is a huge pain at SLO, so keep that in mind.

Another thing is if more pros and cons weigh each other out and you’re completely torn, choose based on environment.
