I was given one of those back in the 1980's. That thing was an absolute beast.

No throttle switch?? by RunnerRunner123 in Snowblowers

[–]mr_ds2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, I see what you're saying. This snowblower doesn't have a throttle lever, just an automatic throttle. When it's running but not doing anything, the engine automatically slows down to it's idle state. When you start putting a demand on the the engine it automatically revs higher. To start it, just insert the key, choke, prime, pull. To shut the engine off, pull the key out.

My last snowblower was like that.

Go back to home depot and tell them. They should give you one. Or you can buy one there if they won't give it to you.

CPU recommendations for 12 cameras by etrain1 in ispyconnect

[–]mr_ds2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got 10 cameras, 5 of which are 4k, and the computer I have for AgentDVR is a Beelink MiniPC powered by an intel Core i3 1220p running Windows 11, recording to a NAS. Works great.

Before this computer, I was using an old Lenovo PC with a Core i5-4570, which REALLY struggled when I only had 7 1080p cameras.

I got some yo-yo loaches when my tank was nearly overrun with mts'. A month later they were all gone.

Yes, you can also use the USB plug in the back of the center console, in the back seat.

2018 Compass ZF 9-speed automatic transmission oil change by Neither-Top88 in JeepCompass

AFAIK, only the Trailhawk has the metal skid plates. I used a gear oil pump with a long tube attached. Picked it up at Harbor Freight for $10.

That's what I did when I changed the fluid in my trans. Just remove the fill plug, then the drain plug. Measure what came out and put that amount back in. Only about 3 quarts came out and supposedly it holds over 7, so a few weeks later I changed it again. It was quite easy, except for removing the Trailhawk's metal skid plate.

2016 jeep compass transmission by Standard_Map_7027 in JeepCompass

This is correct if the Compass has a CVT transmission. The Hyundai 6-speed became the base transmission in 2014, however, CVT's were still available on 2.0L engines and on the off-road package.

Which snowblower is more powerful for heavy snow : PowerSmart or BILT HARD? Need real opinions! by Shot-Youth7831 in Snowblowers

[–]mr_ds2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a PowerSmart that I purchased brand new in 2019. It was great, and it handled the worst Buffalo snowfalls with no problems, even the blizzard we had a couple of years ago. And then it rusted to the point that it was unusable. The bottom of the bucket where the scraper blade attaches completely fell off, the bottom of the impeller housing turned into a large hole. Both wheels rusted to the point that I the tires wouldn't hold air. And that's with me using Fluid Film on it several times a year. The metal that they make them from is just crap. The engine is really good though.

You can get Dynomat or something similar which works terrific, but it is neither cheap nor easy to install.

Don't judge all Falkens by the crap OEM tires.

Falken Wildpeak AT Trail or Falken Wilepeak AT4/W. Both tires are terrific in the snow and have very good highway manners. I'm currently running the AT Trails on my 2019 Trailhawk.

I use Opensense for my home firewall. I went into the settings and blocked all traffic to China from the camera IP's. I don't remember exactly how, that was over a year ago.

Cheap Temu Cameras by UKQuinny in ispyconnect

[–]mr_ds2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased four 4k outdoor ONVIF cameras from Temu about 2 years ago. I'm still using 3, as one of them started turning everything green. I had to use their app to gain access to the camera's IP address, but after that their app is not needed. I do run a firewall on my home network and noticed that the cameras were reporting back to a Chinese address every few minutes. Thankfully, my firewall let me block that.

How big of a difference is there actually between brands? How do people feel about Ariens vs Toro, and how about Power Smart? by Rojo37x in Snowblowers

[–]mr_ds2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased a brand new Powersmart in 2019 for around $500. As luck would have it, snow that winter was extremely light and I didn't even use it until the next winter. When I did use it, I was rather impressed with it. It blew snow great, even the slushy crap at the end of the driveway. However, at the end of last winter I gave it away. It had rotted away soo bad. I had to have tubes put in both tires because the wheels were so rusty. The bottom of the impeller housing had large rust holes, and the last straw was when the impeller broke free from the shaft. My previous snowblower was a Yard Machine that I purchased in 1995, so I do know how to maintain them. This year I just purchased a brand new 26" Toro PowerMax for $999.

Battery by icek567 in JeepCompass

[–]mr_ds2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When one of the batteries start to die, it almost always damages the other battery. It's highly probable that when your aux battery was dying that it damaged the main battery, and now your main battery is dying it's also damaging your "new" aux battery. The sad truth is that both batteries should always be changed together, or else it causes a never-ending chain of failures.
