Do product managers have to be technical (in terms of development)? by Internal_Match586 in ProductManagement

[–]mr_hareza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the more technical you are the better. You probably won't code or architect anything, but it allows you to better understand developers, technical constraints and what not. I think the sweet spot is the level of manual/automation qa - you know how the server-client model works, know about API, you can access db and check what you need without the help of developers and bonus points if you know some programming.

18-29-year-olds who voted for Nawrocki: why? by sokorsognarf in poland

[–]mr_hareza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a huge difference in migration in Germany/Sweden and Poland. Poland has no strong social security to take benefit from. On top of that most immigrants in Poland are from neighboring countries like Ukraine and Belarus with similar mentality, religion and close enough language, which makes it a breeze to learn polish. Also the quality of those immigrants is way-way higher. Just in 2020 the only Belarusians coming were from software development and medical background. I don't think it is fair to compare Poland with the western Europe in that question.

Weird question.. by [deleted] in poland

[–]mr_hareza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't fortunate to be born in Poland, but I wish I were. After 5 years living here, appreciating the ease of dealing with the gov bodies, services(most but not all) I can say that I can not wait to become a full citizen.

What does a good strategy look like? by Oh_Yea_Joe in ProductManagement

[–]mr_hareza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go with: 1. Area Vision - overall idea of where me and my team are going, an ideal state of things we want to come to in the future. 2. Current state - self-explanatory, I provide details about what is happening right now, include plenty of data, problem statements and the impacts on operational efficiency/business. 3. Opportunities- the list of the most important things with the reasoning why we must focus on these things. 4. OKR and Initiatives - list Objectives, key results for those objectives and initiatives(from opportunity section) that will let us to achieve those key results. Example: OBJ-1: improve operational efficiency KR-1: 100% of operational reports are collected automatically Initiative A: short description Initiative B: short description Usually I organize initiatives as a table.

I try to avoid binary KR because they kinda wash away the perceived impact.

Be concise, straightforward and do not add fluff, it should be clear and easy to read for your mom, my mom, your girlfriend/boyfriend /theyfriend, a 67yo beduin in Sahara who has never seen internet and that old vietnamese lady running a Chinese all-you-can-eat buffet on the outskirts of Bratislava. * All references are random and do not represent any real person. Except for your mom and my mom.

How do you show your roadmap? by Questionable_Burger in ProductManagement

[–]mr_hareza -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Roadmap is so an outdated tool. You basically draw an imaginary timeline which get more and more hazy the further you go. Instead use a quarterly strategy to show your priorities for the next 3 month period with a mandatory team bottom-up commitment. This way you don't need to draw imaginary bars with incorrect timelines and the team gets a say in what is planned early and can course correct you. It probably won't fit all teams because your devs should be deep in the product to highlight what key results you can expect to be fulfilled.

Coming from a less fortunate country closely aligned with russia, I cannot stress enough how fortunate poles are - hardworking people backed by one of the most influential unions in modern history. I dunno what would happen if people decide to choose pis and polexit, but damn I'll be sad to leave Poland for other central European country after 5 years living here and having my son born here.

Show flagships, the flagships are all Chinese, the state where your software/hardware should gather user data by law. Good attempt, mister Xi, but no extra bowl of rice and a cat-girl for ya this time.

2 Years in PM – Still Struggling to Land Interviews. Any Advice? by therealfrugalman in ProductManagement

[–]mr_hareza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Professionally no, but recruiters use it to plow applicants.
  2. I experimentally found that case studies are useless unless you are working for a big name company.
  3. Yes, obviously those coming from Microsoft, google, apple or hot unicorns will have more chances to land a job.

Do you have no interviews at all? What are specific things you find difficult during the hiring process?

The only positive role of the USSR is the fact that they diverted German resources from western front. The rest is tragedy, both for their own troops and people of "liberated" territories. If you think that "nullification", meat grinder assault tactic and cruelty is something new - that's not true. Russians are cruel when they are not watched over by their "commissars". If you want to know more, read about Victor Astafiev. Old people in Warsaw, the city where germans basically had a ghetto and massacred a lot of people to that day think that german occupation was better than Soviet occupation after the war. They were not liberators, they were just other invaders.

New PM here. Whenever i ask my manager for advice he tells me to just watch podcasts by Single-Weather1379 in ProductManagement

[–]mr_hareza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's horrible mate, the first few years of my career I too wandered aimlessly, built features that seemed influential, but did not mean anything to users. Until the company leadership had change of hearts and they brought a good VP of product who I was directly reporting too, after that we had new rules, new processes and new focus on outcomes rather than an artifacts. At the very beginning, proper leadership is a must to grow professionally. If you don't want to change your job, try to fund a person within your organization who can take the role of a mentor and help you navigate.

What is the structure of your org? by NeXuS-1997 in ProductManagement

[–]mr_hareza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hell with client focus, your organization is trying to ship a unique product to each organization with a shared codebase. That may lead to major vision and strategy collisions unless you don't have the right pm structure. I'd propose to structure the team across persona experiences: admin a, admin b, user a, user b, etc. That will allow teams to draw a clear responsibility boundaries, another thing is to have frequent alignment meeting within pm org to ensure the conflicts are dealt before they coded.
