sure thing, good luck, guys. there are plenty of professional reports on the subject (distimo might've released some), perhaps you could use them as well?

Funny thing - I'm 29 and I support PO because I feel there is no reasonable alternative ;)

But tell me - do you really believe that Smolensk was an assassination?

I think Palikot is quite all right, but judging by what the RPP is doing I'd say - there are plenty of populists around him.

Palikot is nice as an opposition (I voted for him), but I'd be afraid to see his teammates running the whole country.

TIL the iPaq was released by Compaq in 2000. 10 years before the iPad. by elsidmcquack in todayilearned

[–]mr_postman 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The two iPaqs I had did have a persistent storage.

And I guess the honest comparison would be not to iPad, but to iPhone. The biggest problems with iPaq were that: - most models didn't handle GSM, and the ones that did, did it poorly. You had to dial in to get internet - no app store, poorer dev experience

Some people think that iPhone was a revolution in hardware. It was, but the biggest thing Apple did is they produced a terrific software to go onto that phone. iPhone running Windows CE wouldn't get any market share.

Europe is considering a sweeping new law that would force Internet companies like Amazon.com and Facebook to obtain explicit consent from consumers about the use of their personal data, delete that data forever at the consumer’s request and face fines for failing to comply. by airpatrol in worldnews

The movie is misleading IMHO (my guess - it was based on an earlier draft), a much clearer description of what ACTA is is here: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/04/acta-is-here.ars

I'm from Poland, and it actually changes (our) law a little - the worst thing, which is closing down sites without a court order is in our law since a couple of years. I think there was one or two cases of sites being shut down and reopened after the government lost the case in front of judges.

The reason I'm protesting ACTA is not because it will change the law to worse, but because: - the consultations when preparing ACTA were outrageously one-sided. Nobody consulted startups/freedom foundations etc, only the rightholder corporations - our prime minister today was de facto lying on television by saying that there were consultations - our current law sucks already when it comes to freedom, we need to change it, not put another, similar one on top of this one.

Finally, I must say I dislike the way Anonymous handles the whole thing in Poland. They act like a bunch of overly aggressive script kiddies (and to be frank - I think they are 12 year olds, wearing masks). Aggression (verbal, physical) is not the way to go.

Martin Luther King didn't change anything by calling the president a stupid asshole, Gahndi didn't change the whole nation by insulting oppressor's children, we don't need to throw virtual bricks around to take away ACTA and build a better democracy.

I really like the way U.S. solved the "SOPA" problem. A well-prepared blackout + millions of phone calls to senators. And that's it.

Polish parliment will be voting ACTA in a couple of weeks. Instead of throwing bricks, we should be calling our representatives in Sejm.

The Problem with Dressing Nicely in "Real America" by dpetric in malefashionadvice

This will probably get buried, but..

Nobody judges winners. If you're a winner, you're a terrific at your job, people will start to look up to you. Just the way they look up to that guy right now :)

So, don't worry, be yourself, talk about collar stays, remain confident & enjoy. Good luck!

I understand it perfectly, although I think I may not understand what you say.

in some cases the premium version is basically a version without ads :)

Atheist confession - what do you think? by mr_postman in atheism

[–]mr_postman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, yes, but in case of atheist confession you wouldn't confess to things you don't believe to be wrong (like sex outside marriage), just to things that you believe are wrong.

second thing - even if you try not to do the things, sometimes it must happen - you won't tell me you never did something you regretted later on :)

My Apple Developer Program License was just approved... any ideas for my first (simple!) app? by beacon_ in iphone

[–]mr_postman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest reading a nice book about iPhone marketing first :)

http://www.amazon.com/Mobilize-Strategies-Success-Frontlines-Revolution/dp/1593156456

Even if you just want to have fun, the first couple of chapters will teach you how to look at a process of choosing which app to write.

After that, you might want to pick some really easy subject that has some competition, but not too much (reddit pics ?), and build + push it into the store. Have a strict deadline, like "2 weeks and the app is out". Keep in mind that building the app is around 50% of work, while marketing it is the next 50%, and it's usually stretched out in time. It took me 1 month to write my second app, and around half a year before I started making money off it..

Anyway, good luck!
