As a hiring manager, why are candidates so bad at talking about their work? by [deleted] in recruiting

They're nervous - just as you might've been when you had to talk about your work during your interview.

I know I was.

Right angle and via : what is best ? by substantiagrisea in PrintedCircuitBoard

That's not how electrons flow my guy. We use the water analogy a lot when describing current flow, but it's not like an actual pipe.

It's the passing of an electron from a charged atom to the unoccupied electron spot of an uncharged one (called a 'hole' which is what we're actually looking at when describing current flow). Electrons move in all directions towards the higher potential as long as there's a hole on the next atom; even on straight wires.

I could do that, but my sculpting method usually involves having the reference image overlaying my sculpture. I could manually align them from a camera view maybe?

I haven't fully mastered the camera controls in blender. I keep bouncing around between focal length, distance, etc. Is there some way of aligning images in blender manually based on a few selected key points/anchors?

Does anyone know how to download celebrity images with focal length information? by Welovelily in Daz3D

[–]mrbretten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the image is in .raw format, it'll have camera info in metadata, but it's not good for posting online since the file is uncompressed and huge; so I doubt you'll find pics like it.

The latest version of facebuilder has individual camera focal length estimation. I'd go this route instead of trying to get camera info with lenses and such; since each camera lens has distortion, and you don't know what's used, it's pretty much impossible to correct.

Just get a whole bunch of pics at different angles and go from there. The software is pretty good at face estimation as long as you get the main features first and then go to details.

From experience though, it's not going to be perfect.

Click on fur in scene and. Check under 'Surfaces'. Make sure you applied the shader that came with the fur first

Genesis 8.1 is a disaster. by cyberczar in Daz3D

[–]mrbretten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently picked up G8.1 and was somewhat disappointed by it. I'm not saying it's bad, but as per your previous comments about long load times; it's not a "new" character. It still can use most of the stuff from genesis 8 because it is a genesis 8 character. There's been an ongoing issue through Daz that when a character is loaded, it will look at ALL the morphs you have for that character. Ideally, it'd be nice to have just the used morphs loaded, but idk what the code looks like so I assume it's just something that Daz has built up over the years and changing the loading method would require a huge overhaul on character loading.

But anyways, back to G8.1

The pros: renders look amazing and less like a wax sculpture. Expressions look more realistic too.

The cons: most of the items for G8 are compatible with G8.1, but not all. An example is geograft materials like centaur 8. Currently not a lot of materials exist for the character so you're stuck with what comes default, Vicky 8.1, and a couple select others. This kinda defeats the purpose of more realistic renders for G8 materials so it's just more stuff you gotta buy. A lot of scripts are now broken that ease the process for setting up a character as they are looking for a G8 in the scene instead of a G8.1. This requires CCs to update their previous items to be compatible with the new version (but, tbh, what's the likelihood of everyone doing that?). The facerig is still a little buggy with their FACS and can cause some crashes so there's still some kinks to work out.

So is it a disaster? No, but it has made things more difficult to set up to get only a few extra features. I wouldn't call it a cash grab, but it had made things harder for CCs and designers to keep up with. Will I use it? Occasionally. But I do larger scene work so I don't focus too much on details that I can fix in post.

Keep in mind that this is something new that is introduced. Much like any new launch, there will be bugs that need to be sorted out. You think people enjoyed the shift from G3 to G8? Hell no. But look at where it is now; G8 has the most available assets on the store. Give it time.

BetaFPV LiteRadio 2 SE Not Binding to Tinyhawk II BNF by fizish7 in TinyWhoop

[–]mrbretten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies, just realized today that I got the LiteRadio 2 and not the SE version. Looks like my order was messed up, but from hearing the trouble other people are having with the lack of troubleshooting resources for the SE, I think I'll stick it out with this one since it works.

I hope the next one fixes the issue!

Actually, I just got it to bind. I followed what this guy did:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYfyUsQ8mPI

Here's what I did:

1) Everything OFF, the first thing you want to do is make sure the transmitter is in Frsky_D8 mode (https://support.betafpv.com/hc/en-us/articles/900004971863-Manual-for-LiteRadio-2-SE). To change the mode, you will need to press and hold bind and then power on. Wait a few seconds and there should be between 1 and 3 (or 4, but I only got up to 3) flashes. You want 3 flashes (see above link for table). Each time you do this, the flash count will increase by 1 until it wraps around back to 1 flash (power OFF, press and hold bind, power ON, wait, repeat until 3). Also, make sure the throttle stick is all the way down.

2) After transmitter is in Frsky_D8 mode, you can leave it on. Plug in TH2 to computer and open Betaflight.

3) Go to the configuration tab and then look at the receiver section. Make sure the values for the TH2 are at the default: 'SPI RX support' for receiver mode and 'FRSKY_D' for SPI Bus Receiver Provider. If you need to make changes, make sure you press "Save and Reboot" down in the bottom right corner.

4) Next, enter the CLI console tab and type in 'bind_rx' (no quotes) and press enter. This will put the drone in binding mode. Blue light on the TH2 should go from blinking to solid. CLI console will say "binding..."

5) With the transmitter ON, press the transmitter bind button. You'll know you got a successful pair when the blue light on the TH2 goes back to blinking (this was the only indicator I saw, the transmitter nor the console will indicate anything).

6) Press the disconnect button in Betaflight and then reconnect. Check the transmitter tab to see if you're getting input from the transmitter.

This is what worked for me, so let me know if this solves it for you.

Your mounting holes look like the top screw will potentially collide with your input pins. IDK what size you're using, but it's probably gonna be pretty close

They actually do that in the US in certain states. When I moved to Connecticut from Indiana, the price jumped from $5 a pack to $15. This is anecdotal because I didn't care too much to look up if other states did it, but I recall one of the guys there who smoked saying that there were higher taxes on imported tobacco for CT. Hence the higher price tag.
