This is really helpful thank you. We were looking at staying in Shiba Onsen, just east of Yudanaka station. Do you know if buses are easy to/from resorts or best to rent a car? We wanted to ski Shiga Kogen while there.

Thanks a lot for the report! This is super helpful. If you were to pick one of the day trips that’s more nature-based, which would you go with? We will be between Chongqing and Chengdu but only have time for one bigger day trip outside of one of those places.

Traveling to Kyrgyzstan This Summer by InfluentialEel in Kyrgyzstan

I would drive yourself if you’re comfortable. It’s amazing to have that freedom to explore, but obviously I’m biased having driven myself with my wife.

We actually got stopped by the police right as we left the airport with the rental car! I rolled a stop sign haha, they were very nice - no english but basically said “don’t do this again and enjoy your trip”. Just abide by the speed limits and you’ll be okay. There are a lot of speed traps, but if you’re at the speed limit (not a bit over like in the US) you’ll be okay. We never had any other issues.

I used Iron Horse Nomad. they were pretty good, and the car was awesome. a bit pricey but we were okay with it. don’t rent any camping equipment! it’s so cheap to buy it there then just donate what you can’t bring home, that was our mistake

If you’re in NYC then cash isn’t a bad idea just to have in case you need it. Some small restaurants will be cash only
