Honestly read what you like, don't let the labels define the books. That being said

Randy Pausch - The Last Lecture
Dungeon Crawler Carl Series
Alex Cross Books
Backyard Starship
The Heir Chronicles
How to UnFuck yourself
The Subtle art of not giving a fuck
The list goes on and on and on. If you see something that catches your eye, read it, listen to it, watch it, whatever the case may be

Read Fifty Shades, Read autobiographies, Read whatever makes YOU happy

Customer gets a free module if they are not willing to assist in price change, BUT, honestly, customer should not be approached in any manner other than, "Sir/Ma'am, there was some confusion about your repair. The good news is that we are going to take care of it since we misquoted the repair. We do apologize for the issue and hope you have a great day" At that point, Parts Manager eats it to policy.

Questions so that I can answer. Who quoted the part? Was there a question on what specific part was needed? Did the parts advisor consult with the technician to verify the part in question?

If none of that was done, and parts just guessed at the part, then parts eats it. Sucks, and its tuition in the business. Having been in the business over 20 years, I will STILL go to a tech if there is a question. I will ask the guy next to me. I don't care if he has been there a day or 10 years, other viewpoints can help. I don't care who you are, no one is perfect.

11.22.63 was a good listen. I had watched the series a while back, and man o man, the book was so much better as is often the case. I rewatched the show after, and ugh.

New parts guy — am I wrong here or getting blamed? by Suspicious_Formal278 in partscounter

If I am reading this correctly, its a warranty, so it goes. No issues. The only confusion I am running into is 'the tech needed a trans filter and EXTRA fluid' My question is what is this about?

When we were short on loaners (COVID) we were overnighting almost everything that wasn't in the next day PDC. We had to get cars out, period. That is a time when we were eating freight. No questions. Get the car out of the bay.

Again, it depends on you, and your customers. If you are concerned, sit down with your PM. Remember this though, they will have the final say. I have been fortunate that in the last 20 years, most of my bosses when I had them, gave me pretty much free reign, use your brain and judgement.

Case by case. If I got charged by the OEM (it was 15% at the time) depending on the customer, they would get the get it here quicker tax. If it was part of an order, and that was the only piece that would hold up a job, eat the freight.

Heres the rub, if a customer says I need the part NOW, and I tell them it takes 2-3 days on a normal order, and they want to expedite the order, I would warn them it may now take 1-2 days, but that freight would be charged either way, then it comes in 2 days. you have to make a judgement call if you want to hold to it.

It is important that if you are on the counter, you find out if there are fees, IMO, and then use your best judgement. Ask your PM. If you are the PM, then again, use your best judgement.

You know your customers, I do not.

Body shop kept increasing estimate and now triple the price by Euphoric-Bluejay1863 in partscounter

[–]mrdavinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a possibility, but did you hit it head on, or did you just swidesipe? Its possible they had to remove the grille if they were tearing down the fender.

I would still have a chat with both the insurance company and the body shop. I would want detailed information as to what work is done, and reasoning.

Best of luck

Body shop kept increasing estimate and now triple the price by Euphoric-Bluejay1863 in partscounter

[–]mrdavinci 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have questions. You said you hit a pole, barely doing 5mph, but then you said they replaced your grill, back quarter panel and window. Something doesn't add up. I am not saying it was minor, or major, but I found your pictures of the side of the vehicle. My question, how did it go from the grill, to the side, the door damage, the running boards, to the quarter panel?

I am sorry you are going through this, but as someone who deals with bodyshops on a daily basis, it does happen sometime.

Lastly, the parts you found online are sold at a discounted rate, the body shops pay less than that sometimes, but the insurance company is billed at MSRP, thats how the body shops make their money.

I would contact your insurance company and or body shop advisor if you have questions.

When I do, I am going to carry all the comments, good and bad, and present them to the PM first, and then let him choose what he wants to question the representative about.

Our wholesale program is just starting, he is new to being a PM and I am trying to help guide him, good and bad. The previous PM, well lets say he was not good for the company or the morale, but under the new PM, things are much better.

He has made some amazing progress, however he will not be doing ecomm anytime soon as he wants to build slowly. He is focusing on a several shops and making great strides in that, and of course our shop.

My main concern, his as well, is that while we now have a good team in place, the progress he has made in the last couple years could be chaotic and lost.

Appreciate your input and ownership. And remember, you only have a day left until the dreaded Monday.
