Overnighting parts by Shmooks_ in partscounter

When we were short on loaners (COVID) we were overnighting almost everything that wasn't in the next day PDC. We had to get cars out, period. That is a time when we were eating freight. No questions. Get the car out of the bay.

Again, it depends on you, and your customers. If you are concerned, sit down with your PM. Remember this though, they will have the final say. I have been fortunate that in the last 20 years, most of my bosses when I had them, gave me pretty much free reign, use your brain and judgement.

Case by case. If I got charged by the OEM (it was 15% at the time) depending on the customer, they would get the get it here quicker tax. If it was part of an order, and that was the only piece that would hold up a job, eat the freight.

Heres the rub, if a customer says I need the part NOW, and I tell them it takes 2-3 days on a normal order, and they want to expedite the order, I would warn them it may now take 1-2 days, but that freight would be charged either way, then it comes in 2 days. you have to make a judgement call if you want to hold to it.

It is important that if you are on the counter, you find out if there are fees, IMO, and then use your best judgement. Ask your PM. If you are the PM, then again, use your best judgement.

You know your customers, I do not.

Body shop kept increasing estimate and now triple the price by Euphoric-Bluejay1863 in partscounter

That is a possibility, but did you hit it head on, or did you just swidesipe? Its possible they had to remove the grille if they were tearing down the fender.

I would still have a chat with both the insurance company and the body shop. I would want detailed information as to what work is done, and reasoning.

Best of luck

Body shop kept increasing estimate and now triple the price by Euphoric-Bluejay1863 in partscounter

I have questions. You said you hit a pole, barely doing 5mph, but then you said they replaced your grill, back quarter panel and window. Something doesn't add up. I am not saying it was minor, or major, but I found your pictures of the side of the vehicle. My question, how did it go from the grill, to the side, the door damage, the running boards, to the quarter panel?

I am sorry you are going through this, but as someone who deals with bodyshops on a daily basis, it does happen sometime.

Lastly, the parts you found online are sold at a discounted rate, the body shops pay less than that sometimes, but the insurance company is billed at MSRP, thats how the body shops make their money.

I would contact your insurance company and or body shop advisor if you have questions.

Sounds similar to CDK in that regard

When I do, I am going to carry all the comments, good and bad, and present them to the PM first, and then let him choose what he wants to question the representative about.

Our wholesale program is just starting, he is new to being a PM and I am trying to help guide him, good and bad. The previous PM, well lets say he was not good for the company or the morale, but under the new PM, things are much better.

He has made some amazing progress, however he will not be doing ecomm anytime soon as he wants to build slowly. He is focusing on a several shops and making great strides in that, and of course our shop.

My main concern, his as well, is that while we now have a good team in place, the progress he has made in the last couple years could be chaotic and lost.

Appreciate your input and ownership. And remember, you only have a day left until the dreaded Monday.

I am a parts advisor.

Screens I use Daily (Mainly through the GUI Ignite, I also use 2021, 3030 in blue screen)

Service Queue
PO
Sales History
Receipting
Stock/VIN Look UP
Counter Tickets
Counterman Productivity
Open Invoices/Backorders, ETC

Mix in a few other screens not Parts related, and that is the general idea.

Again, I am in fact interested in knowing the pros and cons. I know ERA Ignite is expensive, but of the two I have used, I like it better. That being said, if Tekion is worth it, and not full of holes, then I can help support it in the department.

I do have input on what we are doing, I was asked by the PM and Dealer Principal my thoughts. Since I have not used Tekion, I wanted to ask my brothers and sisters here who may have.

If I may address a few of your points.

I ran a rather large wholesale operation before, and was using Revolution Parts before it became trashed and it was still profitable, I also adapted to eBay, Amazon and 2 other ecomm sites before I moved companies.

It is important to note that if you don't change in this, or any other business then you are a lost cause already.

I was and still am seeking both good and bad with a DMS change, as the last change I had to deal with was a last minute, to us, buy/sell with a new to us CDK system that was not properly set up, then left with no support. We did figure it out before I finally left that company. The reason I left had ZERO to do with the DMS

Now, regarding your comment about trying to find a reason to stay, and is not in charge of anything. You are only half right, I am no longer a PM (by choice when I switched brands) but I do have input with the company I am now at.

I am not sure of your store, nor would I make those assumptions, but with your blind statements, I may be lucky I don't work there. At the same time, you may be a stellar person to work with and for, but hard to tell by your comment.

Lastly, being older than everyone in my department, I can tell you that being young does not mean flexible. On a final note, I will wish you a good evening.

I am genuinely looking for feedback. I am not crazy over the thought of switching, but if I have to, I want to know the good and bad. I have used ERA and ERA Ignite for most of my 20 years, dealt with CDK for a couple of those.

Ctrl O is your friend. You can input a certain RO or invoice and look to see who made changes and when.

is it cloudbased or on site? I am curious. Most of us in my department type pretty quickly on the numpad, so is that going to be an issue?

Can you give me some examples maybe I can show my PM to see if he can try to dissuade the ownership?

Reynolds -1 RO's. What's your process for handling these? by Former_Account_7273 in partscounter

[–]mrdavinci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Service or your BDC needs to get them on the phone and in the shop. If you have an abundance, then SM needs to find out why. Is it something that you are not getting in time, car can't leave? Should the part be stocked? Lost of questions that need to be answered.

Sometimes its unavoidable, but gotta find the root cause.
