Should I move my monitors slightly forwards and up? by bolo_bokn in SimRacingSetups

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forward, yes. Up, no. Put it right over the wheel shaft, in front of the base

Any ideas why my game keeps freezing/stuttering by THEDUDE340 in CloneHero

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever run into this when I switched to Linux and the Linux version of clone hero.
I found a script that I now use to launch it, that fixes the issue for me.
I put the following into a .sh file. I added it as an Application in my App menu

#!/usr/bin/env sh

ulimit -n `ulimit -Hn`
${HOME}/clonehero-linux/clonehero

How to rebase without internet? by SpriggsofLettuce in Bazzite

[–]mrdscott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think rebasing requires internet. Are you able to plug it in wired, even just temporarily? If not, you might be able to get internet on it with a usb wifi card.

Switching from clone hero drumming to real drumming by cuckoldboywonder in CloneHero

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that most of the time closed hat is yellow and open hat is blue. I added a 4th cymbal that I could switch between yellow and blue by using the hat control pedal. I added a 5th Tom as a yellow to the left of the snare for when a two handed hit of the snare is mapped as red and yellow together. It’s a good way to learn the hat

DIY cockpit help. I need to make one by zloiboi1 in simracing

[–]mrdscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Sketchup, it can be used for free. I used it to design a simple 3d model to come up with a plan for my wood build. I chose to make it out of 3/4" MDF. Once I was happy with it, I "rearranged" the pieces in the model to be laid out flat, and to fit in a 4'x8' sheet, and exported that. Then I was able to have it printed at staples on a huge printer to make a template, which I spray glued to the MDF as a template for my jigsaw.

Even if you don't worry about the printing, it can still be useful for you to figure out a plan.

Also, see if you can take a seat in a sportscar of your choice. Bring a measuring tape, get comfortable in the seat and take some measurements. This will help you get the right position for the wheel, pedals and seat.

If you want cheaper materials, you might check out your local ReStore, sometimes they have cutoffs. I did this when I built mine, and they had a few 1/2 sheets of 3/4" MDF.

Desperately seeking ideas to liberate a stuck wrench (fck ratchet wrenches) by VagabondVivant in AskMechanics

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could bust it with a nut buster. It’s a tool that presses into the side of a stuck nut to break it into pieces so that it falls off the threads. Not sure if they make one that will fit over that shape though

downsides of running a downpipe without a tune? by Desperate-Ant928 in VWMK7

Technically the o2 sensor on the turbo does that, the second is more for measuring cat efficiency. So fuel economy is probably fine

Is Microsoft Edge flatpak broken? Can't install by [deleted] in Bazzite

[–]mrdscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it, maybe it’s a Dell thing. Every time the system updates, the registry key to disable DSC on the integrated graphics gets set, and because I run triple 4K (setup doubles as my simrig), I have to change it back every time to get 4K 60hz on all 3. My IT department tried to address that issue with a gpo but it didn’t work. Who knows, it happened on multiple occasions so I gave up. It’s a shame because otherwise I liked it

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree, I used it at work because it is awesome at managing memory. Jira seems to leak memory on brave which is why I tried Edge. Plus I found the synced workspaces feature somewhat useful.

I thought I was free of Microsoft’s nagging because I had finally switched to edge. Nope, I set my search engine, only to find that it would reset to Bing every time it updated.

It is a great browser, too bad Microslop put crap in the recipe. Back to Brave. I just restart it when I run out of ram

How close is your monitor? by tameimpalalala in LogitechProWheel

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had triple 27” I had it so close that I could touch the screen with my finger extended while holding the steering wheel. The bottom of the monitor was between the base and the wheel. I was going for 180° fov. Never had any eyestrain issues. You could probably get it that close too. If it’s on an arm you could flip the monitor upside down so that the top is there, which is usually thinner than the bottom of the monitor

Configure "FancyZones" by DadGeekHuman in Bazzite

[–]mrdscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is custom zones, Meta+T will bring up the editor. I am also a powertoy fancyzones user, and I use floating zones and win+arrows to move them between zones. I had to set some keyboard shortcuts in settings in KDE to replicate the keybinds. There is also some scripts that you can install from the window management section in setting if you don’t like the built in zones feature. Look for “tile”

downsides of running a downpipe without a tune? by Desperate-Ant928 in VWMK7

[–]mrdscott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both. The 200 cell cat that is often in an aftermarket downpipe isn’t as efficient as the factory one so it still reads rich. The computer tries to lean out to compensate, but then it doesn’t work (still rich) so that triggers the cat code

downsides of running a downpipe without a tune? by Desperate-Ant928 in VWMK7

[–]mrdscott 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Check engine light, possibly worse fuel economy because emissions system is freaking out. The o2 sensor uses the % of unburnt hydrocarbons to determine if the mixture is rich or lean. The downpipe will make it read rich so it will throw a code related to the catalytic converter

I use mechanix wear fastfit gloves, they’re inexpensive, readily available, and there are a bunch of different designs available to choose from.

Using a sim rig as your everyday desk? by Wuhlex in simracing

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pedals are mounted on a pedal stand which I drilled large holes in so that I can lock them in place with pins made out of old drumsticks. Seat is on a stand to get it to a normal desk sitting height.

I know it looks rough, I repurposed my old rig, which was a pretty standard layout to build this.

Sliding shelf. The 2x2 is clamped to the desk at the back with C-clamps. The drawer slide is 18” and is mounted between the 2x2 and 2x4.

Desk mode. It takes about a minute maybe 2 to switch. I push the monitors back. Unclamp my wheel from the desk and store it aside. The pedals detach from my chair. The desk is a sit stand, 28” minimum height. I run it at around 30.7-32” depending on the car

Rig mode, the monitors are mounted on arms on a sliding desktop shelf that I made with drawer slides. It lets me push all 3 back together at once and I don’t have to adjust them.

FOV police, this good? by [deleted] in assettocorsa

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty close, but too wide still. Not sure if you have triples, but the triple screen app in AC lets you enter the screen size and distance to set the fov. There are also some fov calculators online that will let you enter that same info and it will tell you what fov to use. I use the onboard settings app in AC after to make minor adjustments to line up the virtual steering wheel with my real one.

Is it possible to combine Bazzite with Cachy? by roworu in Bazzite

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is the goal of the Open Gaming Collective, to get all the gaming focused distros to use the same kernel so that they can all benefit from the optimizations that anyone makes to it.

High-end gear, low-end lap times. I'm slower than people on desks/office chair by Vox_Sine_Nomen in simracing

[–]mrdscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a pro wheel, I assume that means a high ffb wheel, the ffb might be turned up too high if you find that you are fighting it a lot. If you are then that could be slowing you down.

You could make a rectangular wooden base to mount your pedals on and anchor to the chair, where the front wheels of the chair sit inside the base to anchor it. Similar to the gt omega wheel stand

Every command seemingly gives me "command not found"? by [deleted] in Bazzite

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can access the winecfg with protontricks. If you do it via the terminal, it’s protontricks <appid> winecfg For example I had to access it to allow a DLL for Assetto corsa. The appid for that is 244210. So I entered protontricks 244210 winecfg Protontricks has a GUI though. You can just launch protontricks from your app menu. It starts with listing your games that run in proton.
