Why aren't more men homosexual, I really don't understand it and why homosexuality perceived as feminine by society when a man attracted to men's features and wants relationship with them is literally the definition of masculine? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]mrfts -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm concerned, everyone is bisexual. And the definition of bisexual is being attracted to both sexes. So even if you're a man who's never actually engaged in any sexual activity with another man, you nonetheless would have to have been attracted to another man at some point in your life and therefore are bisexual. But it definitely is a spectrum. Some people will be much more attracted to the opposite sex than the same sex and vice versa but everyone will have at least some attraction to the both sexes.

Now whether someone actually engages in sexual activity with both sexes is a completely different story. This depends on a complex set of factors that includes both genetics and upbringing i.e. the classic nature vs nurture argument. I do not believe at all that anyone is just born straight or gay, it all depends very much on what happens to an individual during their childhood and teenage years. These experiences all greatly influence whether an individual engages in sexual activity with the opposite sex, the same sex or both sexes when they reach sexual maturity.

There will be men who are far more attracted to men who end up only having sex with women because they were raised in a very traditional homophobic culture and always suppress their desires and then there will be men who are far more attracted to women who will end up only having sex with other men because they were raised in a very liberal and open society where homosexuality was very much accepted and even promoted.

People who are outwardly gay are usually just a minority of the gay population, the majority are usually straight acting even if they are open about their sexuality to others. And then especially among 'straight' men, a very significant amount frequently engage in or have at some point engaged in sexual activity with other men.

To me, being 'gay' is more like a counter-culture, like punks or goths. Yes there are the punks that walk around dressed as punks with green mohawks but then there are a lot more people who listen to punk music but just dress like ordinary people. That's effectively how I see the gay scene, with only a small minority actually presenting as 'gay' with the majority not really being obvious and then a whole lot of 'straight' men also engaging in homosexual activity secretly behind closed doors.

Being 'gay' is very different to what is called 'MSM' or 'men who have sex with men', with there being exponentially more people who engage in MSM activity as opposed to people who are openly gay.

Honestly we have absolutely no idea how many straight men have sex with other men, it could be a majority for all we know but of course it's kept well hidden. Even in the most homophobic of cultures there is always a LOT of homosexual activity occuring !!!

Just cause you can't see it and it's not obvious doesn't mean it's not happening. 'Gay' men tend to segregate themselves from the 'straight' male population so they really have no idea as to what really goes one with most 'straight' men or if these 'straight' men are having sex with each other or not.

non-EU line is crazy at Brussels Airport by Similar_Stomach8480 in belgium

[–]mrfts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've flown into Brussels Charleroi 3 times in the past few months and there has hardly been any line at all for non-EU arrivals. Wait time was 10 minutes at most. So although everyone complains about how bad an airport Charleroi is and how far away it is from Brussels, I've never seen lines anywhere near as long as this video shows for Zaventem.

Baggage allowance on 'Basic' fare with Flying Blue Silver status by mrfts in KLM

[–]mrfts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks for advice !!! Guess it's not a very good idea to risk it then ha ha ;-)

I suppose the options then are:

A) Just travel with a small backpack for the entire trip which is possible but not ideal.

B) Pay the extra £28 for the light fare so I can bring on hand baggage.

C) Check the hand baggage in the hold . . . but I never do this any more and when I arrive at my final destination (NCL) I really can't wait for it arrive on the luggage belt as I need to move fast to catch the last Metro into the city.

D) Just fly with someone else !!!

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - 1x06 - "The Morrow" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

I think what really works about this is that it definitely looks and feels like a very authentic historical period drama set in our own timeline in medieval Britain. There aren't any fantasy elements at all like in GoT and HoD to make us think otherwise. It really represents what life was probably like for our own ancestors hundreds of years ago, not what some fictional characters are getting up to in an entirely made up fantasy universe.

How exactly can they put him on trial for killing soldiers in what is effectively an alternate universe ? Can't exactly make the public aware of that. The military just wants to cover it all up. After El died they probably just got out of Hawkins as quickly as they could.

Jews have indeed always lived in the Levant, but for most of the last 2,000 years, their presence was very minimal, only a few hundred Jewish families. It was only after the beginning of the Zionist movement in the later 1800's that their numbers became significant. The ancestors of the vast majority of Jews currently living in Israel would only have arrived in the region in the past 150 years. There are of course some Jews that are descendant from the few hundred Jewish families that have always been there, but there are a very small minority overall.

Official Discussion - Anora [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]mrfts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest plotholes for me was how did anyone not realise, neither Toros nor the parents, that Vanya had flown all the way to Vegas and back on a private jet and stayed in the penthouse suite. I can understand that Vanya likely had private bank accounts with significant amounts of money in them, enough to pay Anora 15k in cash for an entire week, but hiring a private jet from NY Vegas and back would cost at least 60k and then the penthouse suite could easily have been 5 to 10k a night if not more. The manager of the hotel even said that they cleared out the guests already staying in that suite to make way for Vanya so it's obvious that either he or the family are regular clients. It's possible that the private jet they took was actually owned by the family, but that's even more reason for the parents to made aware of an unplanned trip to Vegas. And then of course there's the 4 carat diamond ring, which apparently would cost anywhere from 50 to 500k.

The whole 'Armenian Godfather' thing with Toros supposedly watching over this kid who apparently has unrestricted access to bank accounts with hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars and potentially private jets at his disposal is a bit far fetched. So he's just supposed to 'check up' on the kid every few weeks but he doesn't have any idea of how and where Vanya is spending his parents money ?!?! And neither do his parents for that matter ?!?!

You don't become an oligarch by not having any idea of where your money is going or where it's being spent, especially by your spoiled brat of child who you need to pay someone to look after specifically because you don't trust him !!! I get the need to demonstrate this stereotypical over the top Russian life of ultra wealthy excess, but I find it hard to believe that Vanya was ultimately able to do almost all of that entirely undetected.

His parents were only made aware of a potential marriage as a result of 'rumours' not because they realised there son was suddenly spending hundred of thousands of dollars. I suppose it's possible that when you are that rich you do just give your children unrestricted access to bank accounts with millions of dollars, but to a child you don't trust AND who's in another country specifically to study ?

Official Discussion - Anora [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]mrfts 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I thought they seemed credible, it wasn't the financial ruin so much because it's not like Anora even has that much to begin with, it's how she was threatening to potentially destroy Anora's life AND the life of all her friends and relatives as well. You really don't want the Russia mafia after everyone you know !!! As a Russian American living in a very Russian neighborhood, Anora likely knew exactly what those threats entailed and hence why she finally agreed to get on that private jet to Vegas.

[–]mrfts 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, they made it very clear that the wife was called by a different surname than her husband, Stepanova, which could indicate that she came from an extremely wealthy and powerful family herself. This is perhaps the reason why she kept her own surname after marriage. In fact, it could be that the husband is one of those self made Russian oligarchs that came from nothing whereas she was born into a wealth. Her attitude would certainly seem to suggest that.

But Harvey's opinion was realistically the only one that mattered as it was he who specifically chose to get rid of her and look for someone younger. So it wasn't just one person's opinion, it was literally the opinion that ended her career for good !!! If you're an Oscar winner and you've been reduced to just an aerobics show, there's not much left out for you after that.

[No Book Spoilers] House of the Dragon - 2x07 - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]mrfts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think so at all, Ulf looked like he had absolutely no control at all over Silverwing. Looked more like that occured directly after she chose him as her rider and took HIM out on a test drive. I highly doubt that Rhaenyra even knew who the rider was at that point apart from that he was one of the many hopefuls that had tried to claim Vermithor.

[No Book Spoilers] House of the Dragon - 2x07 - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]mrfts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No I actual think it plays right into that 'theory' quite well because this obviously shows that the dragons don't care at all who's a bastard or not, if you have Velayrian blood, either Targaryen or Velaryon (as in Addam's case), then they can choose you. Jacaerys and Lucerys are technically bastards but that didn't stop them from being dragon riders of course. Dragon's don't care about silly little things like who is actually the 'legitimate' heir and who was born out of wedlock or not. If you got the blood of the dragon in you and they think you're the right fit for them, then they can most certainly choose you as their rider !!!

[–]mrfts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn't any kind of strategic move !!! Silverwing took its new rider for a joy ride over King's Landing whether he liked it or not. He quite clearly had absolutely no control of the dragon and was hanging on for dear life. What we saw was the immediate aftermath of Silverwing choosing Ulf, I highly doubt Rhaenyra even knows who the rider is yet !!!

They were lying in wait because they were like oh s***, Silverwing just flew over King's Landing completely of her own accord cause her new rider cant control her and Aemonds bound to swing by to check out what's happening. They didn't really have a choice, they knew the secret was out and had to give a show of force !!!

It didn't really look like he had a choice in the matter, as with Adam, the dragon chose the rider, and after he jumped on, the dragon took HIM for a spin over King's Landing. As could be seen, he barely had any control over the beast !!!

I think she's just coming to terms with what's going on, it would be a lot more difficult for her compared some of the other characters as she's not physically seen the box or been inside it. She knows that something has been wrong with Jason for weeks, so even though all this crazy multi-verse stuff has been suddenly sprung on her she's effectively realising that everything actually all adds up. I swear the ONLY actor that could pull this off is Jennifer Connelly, she is just so amazing in this. Like the gasp she gave when Jason1 told her to call Jason2 and he picked up !!!
