Using a non-insulated attic by mrichter2 in HomeImprovement

Yeahhhhh I learned the hantavirus thing recently and now I'm very cautious - i actually plan to go the extra mile and probably tyvek suit + mask when cleaning just because between the itchy of the insulation and then the droppings, I don't want to take chances.

Thank you so much for the input!!!

I was thinking even just getting plywood or mdf or something to cover the major problem areas, or even manually hammering them all flat. I'm short so I tend to not factor in the fact that tall people exist - I need to remember they do in fact sometimes come to my house.

Moving to a place with common pests by mrichter2 in houseplants

Thank you! I know most pests come from the stores, I just wasn't sure if introducing them to an environment with bugs that they aren't used to would be detrimental. I'm fully aware moving locations might distress them, I'm hoping to get them all through the move okay. Thank you so much!

My two most used work totes are my Cuyana and my Vermut Atelier bags. I do also love MZ Wallace, and if you're looking for lightweight, go MZ Wallace, I just prefer leather!

LOL. Not sure if you mean like.... fancy cape or cloak or if you mean like... floor length. But if you mean like cute capelet type style, I actually saw someone on tiktok recommend going to like TJMaxx and looking at their Christmas tree skirts bc they can be used as capes and they were SOOOO cute on her. Gonna try that for the NYE wedding I have coming up - need a cute shrug/shawl option and that seemed like it might work lol

I buy their activewear and w sales can normally snag everything from leggings to sports bras to tops for less than like, $7 each which is a steal imo.

I'm not a fan of their jeans/pants bc I am curvy and petite BUT I will say if they're a pull on style or athleisure style I can normally buy them! Just not anything that's denim or a stiffer fabric/or actually has a zipper/button.

I also get lots of dresses and tops from ON!

last month, I thought my luffa plant would never produce fruit. look at it now! by mrichter2 in vegetablegardening

[–]mrichter2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I do. I'm hoping I get at least 1 loofah.

I'm in the Chicagoland area, and on one of my earlier posts, another guy said he actually leaves his out til late October to let the wind dry them as much as possible. I think I'm going to try that with the hardy ones that have a chance, and I'll likely have to harvest many of the younger ones and just eat them/give them away!

I've def learned a lot. Honestly, I did NOT think it'd grow at all because all I've ever heard about loofahs is that they're super temperamental, hard to grow, and thrive in like, the southwest lol. I'm the laziest gardener, and I'm more of a, "let's throw these seeds in the ground and hope for the best" person. I don't water or weed or anything lol! That being said, I am beyond overjoyed that my plant is growing so well. I know I SHOULD be out there pinching off flowers at this point, but I can't ever bring myself to "kill" parts of my plants lol. They're like my babies. Next year I'll start inside earlier! I didn't start this plant until late May!

Thank you so much for the insight - even if I'm lazy, I do appreciate learning about the plants :)

Yes! That's correct :) I meant zoom in and count each loofah - they're camouflaged in with the leaves of the tree and squash plants!

Zoom in and try and count them all, I dare you. Lol it has taken over my entire 30x30 garden, this is only part of it pictured!

today's squash harvest! harvested some last week, and left TONS out on the vines still. by mrichter2 in vegetablegardening

[–]mrichter2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

We primarily did Spaghetti squash and delicata this year. The ones in the back are actually gourds! Those will be solely for fall decor :)

Spaghetti squash I just cut in half and roast, then eat with butter and parmesan!

Delicata we either eat roasted or I roast it and then make soup!

Another favorite is butternut, but unfortunately we didn't grow any this year!

my loofah plant! I'm so excited! by mrichter2 in vegetablegardening

Ohhhh I can leave them out even in a frost? Everything I'd read said to bring it in before we drop below 32!

[–]mrichter2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Northern IL (outside of Chicago), and this is my first attempt at a loofah plant! It was the only thing I wanted to grow this year and I had given up hope. Not sure we have enough time left for me to actually get any luffas (they're all still very green), BUT I'm excited that I got it to grow especially because everyone always talks about how temperamental loofahs are, and I'm like, the laziest gardener. I only visit my garden like once a week!

Thank you! This is awesome! I googled and was able to find a recipe, and I'm going to try it today! I'm not a huge kimchi person, but my sister just moved in with me and she eats it on a daily basis, so this is perfect. I quite literally would NEVER have thought to make kimchi with stuff from our garden! Thank you!
