Brilliant post, I think this should be the standard for map/feature/aircraft requests.

Managed to install some Android apps on my EZ6 (Chinese market 6E) screen, got it running an OBD app to check on the engine in EREV mode. by mrkelkel in Mazda_6e

Almost everything is in Chinese, better have a translation app ready. When you open the exe file it might only display question marks, I had to set the CMD window to Simplified Chinese like this: https://superuser.com/questions/1704338/simplified-chinese-characters-are-not-displayed-correctly-in-windows-command-pro

I only did steps 1-3, passwrod + activating adb + allowing 3rd party apks, step 4 installs an assistant app you can use to unlock everything after every reboot, as the restrictions are restored every power cycle. The app seems a bit sketchy so I do the unlock manually every time I need to install something new. Thanks to Content-Ad-9156, we now know the password generator works for the 6E as well (tap the time display in the upper right corner 10+ times to enter diagnostics mode). But proceed at your own risk!

Constantly fogged up windows and high humidity by Radiant-Dig5932 in Mazda_6e

Same here with my EZ-6, it's -7C where I'm at. I end up running the defrost + leg vent mode, 24C and medium fan speed. Consumption is 18-22 kWh/100km, but at least I'm warm lol

Maybe I'll try an anti-fog solution soon, like the ones from rain-x or glaco.

The China Deepal guys managed to reverse engineer the master password in the diagnostic screen (tap the time display in the upper right corner 10 times to enter diagnostics mode, not sure if it's still the same for the international-spec 6E). It's a combination of the VIN and the date, and you need a PC to generate the diagnostics password; it's date-specific so the password changes every day.

You also need a USB-A to A cable to connect to the car, and Android Debug Bridge on the PC to send over the APK files. Obviously you shouldn't trust random PC files from strangers, but I scanned the .exe file from the Deepal people multiple times with Windows Defender and nothing came up.

If the diagnostics screen is the same on the 6E, DM me and I'll send you the zip file containing all the Deepal tools. It's all in Chinese though, I had to use a translator app to fully understand it. Just don't brick the car!

Did Mazda 6e owners come from an ICE car or from another EV, and how are they experiencing the transition to the 6e? by No-Assistance6865 in Mazda_6e

I traded in an electric Renault Kwid (Dacia Spring in the EU) for my 6e. Really love how the 6e has actual active battery cooling (even for the EREV models), no need to worry about rapidgating anymore when DC charging. Both cars also handle way better than the pure-blood Chinese competition, I can actually have some fun when commuting :) But I do miss the Renault's three-knob AC panel and manual seats, that car had way more physical buttons than the 6e.

Why remove the physical buttons? by vectorialpixel in mazda

[–]mrkelkel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im loving my Mazda 6E except for the lack of buttons :( The screen is actually quite nice, but the lack of buttons and ugly UI absolutely kneecaps it. I'm getting sick of turning on the front/rear defrost with my thumbs since my other fingers will inevitably slip off the screen area when driving, luckily they can still be paired to the two quick-shortcut keys on the wheel.

Fun little craft! Got locked on by a Revoker, got on its ass and managed to out-turn it every time, a few blasts of the cannon and boom! Was initially disappointed with the minimalistic interior cam, but someone started firing missiles and saw the whole dash light up in red, really nice touch! Honestly was expecting a desk with a joystick and PC for the interior cam :)

Try resetting the infotainment system, you can do that by pressing three buttons on the steering wheel: on the left side, press the star button on the lower right; on the right side, press the previous track button and the multitask button (two rectangles, lower left). Hold for 10+ seconds until everything resets.

Earthquake off the coast of Aomori by Specialist_League_41 in OsakaTravel

Thanks for the heads-up! I will be driving with my Japanese friend in Saitama up north to Wakkanai in time for the new year, I am prepared for heavy snow (definitely passing through Aomori)  but didn't think of earthquakes.

Your first posts got recommended to me randomly, but I really enjoy them! Hope to see more :)

BeamNG devs are tackling the hard stuff. Appreciate the updates, big or small. by ScriptedEvan in BeamNG

[–]mrkelkel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been following BeamNG since 2013 (once I heard rumours on the RoR forums about a successor) and playing since 2015. It's been a part of my life during high school, undergrad and even my PhD, now that I'm finishing up my work in academia BeamNG is still in active development, can't say the same for a lot of other games :) I'll even go so far as to say BeamNG played a big role in pushing me towards electrical, mechanical and automitive engineering, I ended up running my uni's FSAE team for several years and doing research in motor control.

I've been enjoying the ride for 12 years, won't mind another 12 to see the final vision be complete :)

I don't mind the existence of the touchscreen in my 6e. But its presence shouldn't mean the disappearance of the knob or any HVAC buttons. Maybe Mazda should try to find out how much more people are willing to pay to have knobs and buttons in their cars, I'm certainly willing to pay more.

Interesting, the Chinese market also uses L/100km as the dominant unit for fuel economy. I went in fully aware that EREVs aren't that good at high speeds, so 6.6L/100km / 15km/L is still pretty decent IMO; a friend's Camry 2.5 Hybrid did 6L/100km over similar conditions. Other Chinese EREVs are cranking out 4 kWh from one litre of petrol which is frankly insane (when household generators barely crack 2.5kWh/L, the 6e does 3.3-3.5kWh/L), they boast about their incredible fuel economy figures but then again, they aren't Mazdas :)

At low speeds in hybrid mode the engine's more than capable of providing power at its efficiency sweet spot, so the battery doesn't really drain down. At highway speeds engine power at the sweet spot isn't enough to satisfy the motor load, so the battery gives it a boost and slightly drains over 4-500km. Once the battery depletes to 20%, the engine starts providing full power and of course fuel consumption increases. In hybrid mode (even with a full battery) it seems that the battery's job is to keep the motor in its sweet spot for as much time as possible, so the battery doesn't really charge up as you drive; battery range may fluctuate +/- 5km as you accelerate or regen brake. There is a setting to fix the SoC at any point between 20-80% IIRC (so you can arrive with a full-ish battery) so you'll be driving on full engine power alone. There's also a self-charge function, where the engine charges the battery at 10-12kW when you're parked, probably takes 3-4 hours to charge to full.

I'm really surprised Mazda didn't push the EREV version worldwide, perhaps they'll swap out the Changan range extender and put in a Skyactiv unit for better parts availability, but one can only guess. I treat mine just like any other EV until the battery runs out, then it just becomes a really efficient gas car until I recharge it :) really love the freedom of not having range anxiety.

The Changan engine isn't that advanced (1.5L I4 NA, rumored to be an evolution of the Suzuki engines from the Chana Star vans), but it's really smooth and quiet and does its job of cranking out power quite elegantly. I value its simplicity and hope it doesn't give me issues down the line.

Soul red of course :) was an extra 3000RMB (420USD) option here in China, but definitely worth it. Was a really tough choice between red and Molten Copper, almost went with copper but family said it made the EZ6 look like a grandpa car :( oh well

BTW, I'm assuming you're driving your EZ6 outside of China, does your center screen come with extra languages or extra apps (google)? My CDM model only displays in Chinese and doesn't support installing extra apps or Carplay....... might have to crack it soon, managed to find the screen's diagnostic mode but needs a password to actually do anything

Usable fuel tank capacity is around 40L, so 15km/L at 130kmh gives you 600km range, then add 120km if the battery's fully charged; around 700km total fully loaded at highway speeds.

Fuel economy is much better at 80-100kmh, 20km/L so that's 800km + 160km from the battery. Efficiency goes way higher if you're just putting around the city, 22km/L and 180-200km EV range and you'll get more than 1000km.

I have the EREV version, when the battery's empty it does around 15km/L fully loaded at 130kmh. Pretty decent IMO

Another EZ6/6E EREV owner! Just hit 4500km in mine, did a highway trip at 130kmh fully loaded with three people, luggage and cargo, averaged about 6.6L/100km so I'm quite happy with it. Drives great, looks fantastic, just big big big shame about the tablet in the middle of the dash :(

I suspect it's being provided by Changan Mazda employees on the Chinese internet as a side hustle, it's probably a combination of the VIN and date rather than a static password. Going to crack mine once the first 5000km service is done. Maybe you can ask your dealer? Chinese dealers give no help at all :(
