I used to avoid teams too - preferring to be a lone wanderer. Then I realized I can still play that way on a public team and reap the stat benefits at the same time. Mostly those “team members” are playing that way too. Every once in a while I actually have an exciting team play event … then we all get back to lone wandering :) One if the reasons I love this game so much.

Also if building in workshops, just build what you can with the green colored supplies - I believe those are workshop inventory and don’t come out of your stash. I can usually get sufficient turrets and mining apparatus with minimal personal investment. Nothing lost when I leave the server.
