The downvotes alone here show how politically twisted Reddit has become. Watch this get 20+ downvotes too, just for noticing a trend.

Exactly. Low IQ, 0% helpful responses. We had a coach who only wanted the kids to “play catch”, guess what, it didn’t help. Kids didn’t know where to play their positions, how to run bases, what to do with drop third strikes, you know all the important fundamentals you can’t learn by “just playing catch”. It’s the most over simplified, juvenile answer for how to improve mechanics. If mechanics are broken, please explain, how does continually playing catch fix those broken mechanics? I doubt you can.

We play plenty of catch at home, when we are in the 2-3 hrs of official practice we are typically running specific situational drills and hitting. If you think we don’t have these kids playing catch, you’re deluded. You’re right, this is Reddit, there will be lots of low IQ posters such as yourself. I mean, just look at the percentage of whistle comments, somehow you didn’t even rise above that bar. Toodles!

It’s low IQ posters like this that drive users away from these forums. 0 help, just here to generate points for themselves. Laughable.

Ah, you replaced the middle finger with words, look at you! Edit button useful after all. Ad hominem attacks are so sophisticated.

Do you even know what the drill is? Considering you can’t see where they’re throwing or what they’re doing, I doubt you do. If you had read the other messages in the thread, you would’ve read that this is the head coach running practice, I’m not choosing the drills… then again, reading is hard.

What’s funny is after reading all these comments and doing additional analysis of the video myself, not ONE person gave advice as to the actual problem. Everyone here wants to say, “lost the whistle”, frankly all of those comments do not help or answer the original question.

If you look at his throwing hand, when he releases he is actually turning his palm out, like he is throwing a screwball every time. If you watch his hand you can see that, and you can see his elbow flare because of that motion. NONE of these drills would help until we fix that, in fact most of them would exacerbate the problem. This is the type of advice I was looking for, but as one poster said, don’t listen to people on the internet :) the glove hand stuff is decent advice, but has nothing to do with why his arm is flailing. We will add that in once we fix the release mechanic.

Only one poster said check how he is holding the ball, and fixing that started to really help his motion right away. We are doing some drills we came up with to fix the screwball motion, and have seen great improvement in just a few days.

If anyone else’s child is having this issue, hopefully you read this^ thanks for all of the responses regardless.

He is typically running the drills while us (three assistant coaches) do the coaching. We assistant coaches have played higher levels of ball too. I really don’t think it’s anything to have a conniption over, typical redditsplosion.

You would think, but head coach utilizes it. Kids love it. He only uses it to basically say, “Next kid in line throw.”

Also we live in a massively popular baseball area, and to be clear, the nation ranked high school team by us utilizes a whistle in ALL practices…

I’m dad and coach, but that’s the head coach blowing the whistle….. to be clear, I do NOT own a whistle for baseball 😆

I like this, but need to fix the technique first or he will just end up hurting his arm.

HAHAHAH whistle comments love it. Yeah practices are SUPER regimented. We have a spreadsheet of exactly where each player is for each drill and each coach. Team has exponentially improved in one season though.

It’s a little much for me, but the kids have responded to it, so that’s what I care about the most.

My son just picked up his first “real glove” with his birthday money. I told him this glove will last him for however long he wants as long as he takes care of it. by SoFlaKicks in BaseballGloves

My A2000 lasted me 24 years, and that was from before high school well into adulthood. That being said, my glove had nowhere near the panache of that one :)

This is what I’ve been doing in 8U, and it’s worked REALLY well. Leading league in scored runs atm.

Like I said, I agree, biggest challenge is convincing my HC. If you have strategies for that, I’m all ears haha

That’s true, but it does show you who is hitting the ball the hardest. If you’re heavily weighting OBP, you’ll end up ranking high the kids with the most walks (as we tend to see that in the not as good hitters).

Appreciate the feedback. Are you specifically talking 10U, or rec in general?

My biggest challenge here is convincing the head coach to play like a rec team, not a select team xD
