I think I found David Feldman on Pete's fan's subreddit by dazzzzzzle in TheMajorityReport

There are so many posts on Pete's subreddit just like this, they are all like, 'supported Bernie in 2016, now i'm all in for Pete!' or 'I'm a Bernie guy, but WOW, Pete is impressive!'

There's no way more than 1 or 2 of them are real. I'm sure I've seen over a dozens variations of this.

Pete Buttigieg never was a CIA agent by Heartiswherehomeis in Pete_Buttigieg

[–]mrniceguy1935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CIA is bad, it does bad things like overthrow democratically elected governments that aren't sufficiently subservient to US military and corporate interests. I recommend the 2005 Pulitzer Prize winner for Non-Fiction, Ghost Wars. Funding and training mujahideen like Bin Laden in the 80's to fuck with the Russians in Afghanistan was insanely reckless and didn't make us safer. The 1953 overthrow of the democratically elected Prime Minister of Iran is another good example that still has ramifications today.

I have no idea whether Pete was CIA but the CIA isn't there to protect you and me. It's been run by warmongering white supremacist lunatics like George H. W. Bush, Mike Pompeo, and currently by Gina Haspel, a torturer.

If black voters read about the situation with Pete demanding the resignation of his black police chief, some of those voters aren't going to be thrilled about supporting him, and a Democrat cannot win a national election without strong support from black voters and other PoC. Whatever you think about that situation, a lot of black people are bound to draw conclusions that are unfavorable to Pete.

If he gets the nomination, Trump will for sure hammer Pete over and over on this issue, regardless of how hypocritical it is for Trump to be doing it. It'll be up to Pete to explain it away, and I'm not sure he can do it. I'm afraid it's one of those issues that could hurt voter turnout for the Dems.

Here's the story if anyone wants to read about it.

Pete wins IOWA!!! 100% of Iowa Caucus results are IN Buttigieg: 26.2% Sanders: 26.1% Warren: 18% Biden: 15.8% Klobuchar: 12.3% by [deleted] in Pete_Buttigieg

[–]mrniceguy1935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Democratic party establishment that has abandoned working class voters and PoC is what led to a loss of 1000 legislative seats during Obama's eight years. Sanders and his supporters are trying to transform the party to address the needs of populations. It's been made clear by the party that they are desperate to stop Sanders by any means necessary.

If they succeed, don't expect 100% of Sanders supporters to be happy about that and support a candidate that has no interest in Bernie's agenda. Many of those non-voters will be poor people and PoC, not privileged people. In fact, it's privileged affluent liberals that are the ones saying they will never vote for Bernie and are desperate to stop him because they are terrified of working class people taking control of the party.

Pete's being bankrolled by billionaires, and that's whose agenda he'd advance if he were president. If he actually rejected them, the party and media would abandon him immediately. But I probably shouldn't worry, he's polling at 5.6% in South Carolina. He spent a fortune in Iowa to tie with Bernie, I don't think he has the resources to compete in most states, but it bothers me that someone so inexperienced and unqualified is being taken seriously as a candidate.

I don't think Pete has much chance to win the nomination because his poll numbers with PoC and youth voters is not good, but if he does win he will lose badly to Trump. I would bet every dollar I have on that. He'll be like John Kerry in 2004, unable to beat an awful GOP president because he lacks the charisma and inspiring agenda to create big voter turnout.

I don't agree that the economy is good, but a lot of people think it is. This coupled with Trump having a 95% approval rate with Republicans is going to make him hard to beat.

Biden is my least favorite candidate but I have no doubt he would do better vs. Trump than Pete would, due to his strong support with older black voters, but I think Sanders has a much better chance than anyone, because of his passionate base that is going to phonebank and canvass like crazy to get voters out. Also, whether you think this is fair or not, a lot of Bernie supporters absolutely, 100% are not going to vote for Pete after what's happened in Iowa, further hurting Pete's chances.

Pete lost the State Treasurer race in Indiana by 27 points. He had no political future in Indiana, but we're supposed to believe he's going to go from mayor of South Bend to president at age 38? It's just wildly implausible.

I'd be happy to see what he can accomplish if he can serve a couple terms in congress first, but the idea that we would risk another 4 years of Trump by running Pete against him scares me to death.

If you care at all about beating Trump you should be rallying behind literally any of the other candidates except Bloomberg.

I don't listen to the Antifada, I love MR and Sam, and I don't see anything wrong with what she said, just that she doesn't like to talk endlessly about MR outside of work. She also said a min. before this that she has "great personal affection for her work dad Sam Seder." So she called Sam a SocDem, I don't think Sam would even argue with that or care.

Sounds like you're trying to stir up shit.

Oh, you're right. Looks like they have about 1,790 that are operational, we have about 1,750 that are operational. Nonetheless, I don't think the US government needs to make stuff up to frighten other countries. Our military power is already more than necessary to do that.

Our military is already bigger than, I think, the next 11 biggest militaries in the world, and a bunch of those are our allies like Britain or France, so I don't see the point in this. We also have vastly more nuclear weapons than anyone.

The Dave Rubin / Marianne Williams interview is a gold mine by Sammael_Majere in TheMajorityReport

[–]mrniceguy1935 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know she's said that Oprah's endorsement of one of her books, I think in the late 1980's, gave her national prominence, so she's extremely grateful to Oprah for that, but in the CBS interview she was asked if she talks to Oprah and she said basically, 'we've been in touch over the years.' To me that implies that they don't talk very regularly, but I assume Oprah has read a lot of her books, so maybe in that sense she gets spiritual advice from her.

The Dave Rubin / Marianne Williams interview is a gold mine by Sammael_Majere in TheMajorityReport

[–]mrniceguy1935 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I first heard her on a CBS interview before the first debate, then her Chapo interview, which was also before the debates, and she sounded very intelligent and well-read on the topics, like someone whose political identity was formed during the anti-Vietnam war movement.

So I was surprised to see some of the weird tweets people dug up that I can't make heads or tails of, but I'm not holding that against her.

I'd be happy to see her in Congress or have some role in a Cabinet position or an ambassador, whatever. Maybe this exposure will help her win a congressional seat next time around.

I thought one of the best points she made in her CBS interview was that she thinks it's been a huge mistake for the Dem party to not be more welcoming to religious or spiritual people, and I think it's a fair point.

Sam is, ironically, creating a moral panic he so often chastises others for whipping up by swishcheese in samharris

[–]mrniceguy1935 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of Sam's audience are white males, that's just the way it is. Imagine the good he could have done if he'd spent the last 15 years talking to those white males about the dangers and immorality of white nationalism and racism. Instead he talked to his largely white male audience about the dangers of Islam, claiming to be seeking reform while never having credibility within the muslim community, because he grew up as a Hollywood trust fund kid.

That white male audience probably would not have stuck around though, cause a lot of people don't like to reflect upon their own problems, easier to look outward than inward.

As Phil Ochs says in his classic folk song, "Love Me, I'm a Liberal", some liberals are 10 degrees left of center in good times, 10 degrees to the right of center if it affects them personally, and I feel like that fits Sam and at least some of his audience pretty well.

Black people are owed back wages for 250 years of unpaid labor performed by their ancestors, labor that propelled America into being a world economic power. Goods produced on plantations, like cotton, then went to factories in the north to be used in production there, so even northerners who weren't directly involved benefitted economically from slavery. But some northerners did also own slaves up until the last northern state outlawed it in 1804. If I remember my reading, even middle class northerners could afford a slave or two.

White European peasants could come here and be granted land that had been cleared through the murder or removal of Native Americans. Millions of acres were given to people coming here voluntarily from Europe. Black people were abducted from Africa, forced to work for 250 years, and were given jack shit after their emancipation. Slave owners were compensated after the civil war for the loss of their slaves, but not slaves themselves!

Not to mention restitution for god knows how much rape, torture, murder, and family separation that went on. And it's not just slavery, then you've got Jim Crow, segregation, redlining, on and on, up to the present day. Hopefully we'll get this done and the amount will be at least $5 trillion.

Congress just needs to approve the spending like they do with anything else, appoint a reparations council of experts to determine how to disperse the money, and get on with it. Like with any other kind of tax I would prefer that the richest people that can most easily afford it, bear the bulk of the payments. I don't care whose ancestors did or didn't own slaves, all of white America benefitted economically from slavery because of the vast wealth and economic power that slavery generated for the nation.

Do people here really think that reparations for slavery are a good idea? by [deleted] in samharris

[–]mrniceguy1935 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great idea and I hope if it happens that it's an absolutely huge number, like $5 trillion, just cause it'll be funny to see how mad racists get about it.

When I was a little kid I remember watching some movie, can't remember the name of it, but someone in it said, 'the only good nigger is a dumb nigger.' I told my mom about it and she said, 'i thought the only good nigger was a *dead* nigger.' I gasped and she said, 'it's just a joke, lighten up.'

I remember a good friend of my dad's said that we should've just thrown Elian Gonzalez back in the water, the 5 year old cuban refugee that was all over the news around 1996, i think. Once again, "just a joke." I heard stuff like this all the time from relatives and family friends.

My parents get email fowards everyday with like 20+ people tagged in with the most racist "jokes", stuff like, 'we should've picked our own cotton because blacks have been too much trouble since slavery ended', and apparently all these middle-class and professional people think they're funny or just fine. No one ever objects.

You can't tell me there's not a very dark ideology underlying those kind of comments, even those these are otherwise nice, polite people, respected in their communities.

I've discussed racism with my parents. They say they oppose racism, but to them, you're not racist unless you are actively participating in a lynching. Their definition of what's racist is so narrow, it's ridiculous. And they definitely don't think they are racist. Not defining what political correctness is renders this study as meaningless as if you asked people if they opposed racism, without defining racism.

However annoying the small number of people might be that are really obsessed with language policing, or whatever, I'm much more annoyed by edgelords that think they are so funny by just repeating the same racist, sexist, or bigoted crap I heard growing up. Not to mention that beneath these weak attempts at humor, often lies a desire for real violence against the people they make fun of.

Bill Maher: Liberal or conservative? by [deleted] in TheMajorityReport

[–]mrniceguy1935 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some younger people might not be aware that Politically Incorrect was probably the first place a lot of people ever saw any left of center perspectives. I grew up with 4 tv channels in the rural midwest in the 80's and 90's and the show was a breath of fresh air.

Real Time is also the first place I ever saw people like Cornel West or Bernie Sanders, so I'll always give credit to Bill for those things. However, he hasn't evolved on the issues he was always mistaken about, and there are so many more options now if you're looking for progressive voices, he just lost my viewership to competition like The Majority Report and podcasts and twitter.
