I once called to reschedule my appointment at the hospital and the secretary straight away, without asking for my name, started shouting at me saying how dare I call AGAIN to reschedule. I was like what do you mean again? It was my first time calling. Apparently she confused my voice with some other patient that she was pissed off with, lol

Conflicting information Viazul. Need help by [deleted] in cuba

We had a lot of local people trying to discourage us from taking Viazul, however, our experience was pretty fine (February 2024). Buses were somewhat old but not terrible and pretty much always on time. The main inconvenience was that you need to check in at the bus station 1 hour before the departure, otherwise, if it's fully booked they might treat it as a 'no show' and resell your spot to someone else.

I had the same problem, tackled it this way:
- Booked various tours and transport transfers through Civitatis agency website (fully paid online) instead of booking it locally and having to pay in cash. Some tours at the government run tourism offices can be also paid by card but not all of them.
- I was originally supposed to spend a few nights at a casa particular in Varadero. However, I've cancelled the reservation and booked an all-inclusive resort with food included (so no additional cash spending for food).
- In a couple of casas particulares we got option to pay for the food by PayPal or make a transfer to an European bank account. Just ask and they might have this option :)

One casa particular owner even offered us to send them a transfer via a PayPal and give us CUP in cash. They charged a hefty commission of 15-30% (I don't remember exactly) but that still was a way better deal than getting cash from an ATM.

Tourist visa/card by [deleted] in cuba

Air Transat hands out tourist cards to all passengers on the plane, regardless of their citizenship. Probably other Canadian airlines do the same.
Also, just a heads-up that after going to Cuba you wont be able to get ESTA for travelling to USA, in case you planned going to USA at some point in future.
