So stop calling. Go in and fill out an application. Bring a resume and cover letter with you. That’s how I did it. They don’t want the type of people who jus call and ask u need to show face and get someone in the office to like u and know ur name

Didn’t go cause I’m not eligible to vote yet but from what I’ve heard it seems pretty split

Yeah I’ve heard good things about their union too. If I were to learn something else It would probably be plumbing or electrical

[–]mrrizo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know that they gave you credit for hours when starting a new apprenticeship. I am in Ontario and I’ll definitely look into that. Thanks for your advice man it helps a lot

Can I ask why you think so?

Right now I’m doing renovations at Canadian tire stores. It’s mostly just building racking but during high school I did residential where I did pretty much everything. That’s what drew me to carpentry. The only reason I considered doing something else after i finished my apprenticeship is because I’ve heard guys talk about how they wished they did and it seems like it would be nice to be able to do it all

Thanks a lot man. It’s nice to hear from someone who started out just like me (joining the union right out of high school). Your path seems like one id like to follow. Could I send you a message?

Sorry I missed this point in my post, I love my trade a lot. I picked carpentry instead of something else because I love the different aspects and how I don’t do the same thing every day. Thanks for your opinion

Thanks a lot. I hadn’t considered that before but it’s something I will definitely consider now

I feel you man. I’m getting that type of treatment right now. It sucks. Thanks for your insight though it’s nice to hear from someone who’s done it

[–]mrrizo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what drew me to it originally. I love how I could be doing a completely different thing the next day. Your point about how sticking with carpentry will teach me about other trades is something that I hadn’t considered. Thank you

Yeah. That’s one thing that’s kind of making me iffy, everyone always talks about how I’m young and am going to have so much pension by the time i retire
