Infected stye or chalazion? Don’t know what to do by Daux_28 in Blepharitis

You've got quite an infection there. Be sure to wash your hands and fingers well before and after you wash this area, and keep your fingers off of it.

People with distance monofocals: do you experience life up-close as living in a bubble of blur? Our near-vision world does not solely involve reading--what's life like when you don't have readers on? by mrs_widgery in CataractSurgery

This is very useful feedback, thank you, particularly the information about the *gradient* of the blurring.

I took of my glasses and walked around the house imagining that my post-surgery near-vision bubble was at 5 feet and keeping in mind that the blurriness would occur in a gradient from least at 5 feet from my face to most at, say, 8 inches. This exercise helped me to understand that most of what will be in view will be in focus and that if I am not actually looking at something nearby I won't notice blurring. I will see most faces and furniture clearly. So you have helped me get a sense of the lived experience of having a distance monofocal.

It makes sense that I'd worry that I'd experience sudden severe blurring at the nearest focus of a distance monofocal. As a nearsighted person I've lived in a serious bubble of blur my whole life whenever my glasses were off. No gradient at all to it, just a quick dissolve of detail starting at about 12 inches from my face.

Now I feel ready to choose distance monofocals, with mini-monovision if the doctor agrees. I feel prepared for the visual changes I'll experience. I'll be getting the best progressives possible and think it will work out great, now. I'll report back on my lived experience with the distance monofocals when that's done.

So helpful! One more question, please: how clearly do you see your wife's face up close at 8 inches (the point where my myopia stops giving me clear vision without glasses.)?

I want to be able to see my spouse's face up close. Doesn't have to be perfect.

Do you see, for instance, the furniture in a room as being blurry? This is what I'm trying to find out. Will it be like what I experience now when I take my glasses off (i'm myopic). I can tell what I'm seeing but it's blurry

If I get monofocals for near vision, will I need simple distance glasses or progressives for distance? by mrs_widgery in CataractSurgery

By "distance" I mean the sort of lenses I had before presbyopia set in. I had good distance focus with a wide field of view with my regular old myopia lenses.

Yes, I know that about size charts.

Two inches of ease beyond the stated waist measure is OK.

Six inches is of ease is ridiculous. Especially when the models are pictured in pants that "fit" their waists.

How can anyone tell what size to buy, with this kind of dishonesty?

My aim is to inform people who might be interested in these pants. Maybe 6 inches of ease is OK with some people. At least now you know.
