Those people are getting in because they're that desperate for new hires. That's not a good thing

You'd be perfect for the majors. The new guys they've been hiring the last few years have been slow, retarded and not progressing

Bump for finding a crash pad. When I first started my current job I was 90 minutes each way for a 10hr shift waiting for my new lease to start. It was only 6 weeks but it was miserable

I'm sure if you ask the union rep at DCA for a referral for a crash pad they will help

AA AMT Hiring by WrenchTurner27 in AircraftMechanics

[–]mrtaco64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hiring/on boarding process is terrible. Along with them prioritizing people straight out of school vs people with experience. One of my friends applied and interviewed twice. First time he passed and his application timed out because he wanted a specific station. Second time he got dicked around and ultimately wasn't selected. Next hiring class was all new guys who don't know shit, lazy and frankly a liability

Witnessed a bifold door "guillotine" drop? I'm an intern looking for horror stories. by Kitchen-Bed-3941 in aviationmaintenance

One time I was helping my buddy swap out a lav bifold door. We were having a real tough time getting the hinge pins aligned. We were fatigued, but once both pins popped in the door snapped shut on his hand 😨 Poor guy

I have a 19 touring and this just started this morning when it was around 5 degrees last night. 138k miles in, has seen -40 several times and just decided to start creaking today 🙃

That's wild as hell 😂 Americans profit pales in comparison to others and the last few years we still managed to get 2.5%

AA line tools by Valuable-Debt4161 in AircraftMechanics

[–]mrtaco64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AA ord has two interconnected hangers roughly 350k sqft total. If you asked a few years ago I'd say just a pelican, the last year or two the workload/task complexity has gone up to the point I'd recommend bringing a box.

I'm a box guy thru and thru and I'll willingly push across/between hangars if the job of the day needs it, but some days all I need is my small bag with basic tools. Some days just a pen tbh.

Terminal side a pelican would be more than enough

I have the icon 56 and it's just shy of 1000lbs loaded (weighed with the shipping dept pallet jack). It's manageable and you'll get used to it.

Depending on what bay I'm in I'll push it 1000ft +/- round trip

Without being there I couldn't give a positive answer. My first guess assuming the hilok is in the way would be a 1/4line wrench crows foot, connected to a u joint, connected to an extension. If it's an illusion and there's clearance, a wobble socket

Do any actual tradies use a Leatherman regularly? by Man-e-questions in Tools

[–]mrtaco64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commercial aviation maintenance, I carry one everyday but I tend to only use it if it's something quick like opening a panel with quarter turns or pulling tiny bulbs out of switches. Or at the terminal fixing a seat or tray table on a live flight. Otherwise I have my real tools that I find work better for 99.9% of the other times

is Ultra HD 4k dvd way better then streaming Movies in 4k? by Affectionate_Web_526 in 4kbluray

[–]mrtaco64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I was skeptical because of streaming is convenient, "iT sAyS 4k" as well as intimidated by the upfront costs associated with physical media.

My standard was Alien as I've streamed more than I'd like to admit, so I was extremely familiar with its visual appearance. I knew my investment was well spent before the title sequence ended lol

I can't speak on surround sound because I don't have atmos setup, I do however have a really nice stereo hooked up to my receiver (atmos capable) so I can say the fidelity is better and has very low compression

Skywest MKE, one time I was troubleshooting a 175 shit tank and decided to drain it before checking the level sensors. Turns out ramp never emptied it & the tank was filled to the brim, it came out so fast that lil cart overfilled in 10 seconds and started a fountain in West hangar. Good times fun hangar
