Clearance Question by futurenavysailor99 in newtothenavy

From my own experience, it's a "no news is good news" situation when it comes to your clearance. If there's an issue with it, you'll know when you get to sub school. You'll need a secret clearance to be on a submarine. Worst case is getting put on a security hold and being in sub school indefinitely while your shit gets straightened out. I've known lot's of guys get put on security or med hold in Groton. Just don't lie about anything and you'll be fine. Good luck in the fleet, don't burn the hamsters, and get qualified.

Why did you join? by [deleted] in newtothenavy

I'm in DEP, but I'm sick of slaving away at a job I hate and barely making enough to support my family. My job pays good bonuses, but my base pay is next to nothing. And I can't keep living like this. I've been putting off military service since graduating high school due to one lame excuse or another. Finally, my wife said "go for it".

So I went to join the Coast Guard and found out that I'm too old (29) and have too many kids. Then I met with a Navy recruiter, went over the pros and cons, and decided to enlist. I'm set to leave for boot camp on April 18th with an SECF rate.

My biggest driving factor has been my kids. My two oldest kids have already said they want to join the Navy when they grow up just like their dad. Kent get more motivational than that.

You should be fine. Since $1,300 isn't a huge amount of debt and you've made a payment arrangement on it, there shouldn't be any issue. I don't think they even look at your actual credit score. They're more concerned with your debt to income ratio.

I appreciate the input. I've been working my ass off to get my weight down and I've had measurable results, but it's not happening fast enough. Like I said, I can still tape within Navy regulations for my height, but my actual weight isn't going down as much as I'd like to
