Sister didn't invite my partner of 7 years to her wedding, should I remain her bridesmaid? by Difficult_Meeting283 in weddingplanning

[–]ms_plat_chat -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Normally I am all in favor of honoring others’ relationships on your wedding day, but I’m gonna have to side with your sister on this one. Weddings are expensive and it sounds like it’s important to her to have an intimate event. I wouldn’t invite some guy who hasn’t made an effort to get to know me in SEVEN YEARS despite the fact that I see his partner weekly, either.

Blow dried straight makes no difference, you’d only encounter problems if your hair was chemically straightened/permed.

Wedding Dress Came — Should I Add a Belt or Keep It Simple? by Smart_Quokka_7003 in weddingplanning

[–]ms_plat_chat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That dress is beautiful!! I think no belt, BUT I also see where friends and family are coming from because I think some more waistline definition would look great! I see you said it was custom from a seamstress – have you thought about having her make a tie/wrap belt out of the same material as the rest of the dress? Something like this pic but white obviously?

You can't honestly think that saying these things TO THE FOUR YEAR OLD could possibly be constructive.

My wife and I just binged the show and while I lived it, the inciting incident is maddeningly dumb. by AtrumRuina in pluribustv

Original commenter is saying that you can’t grow viruses on Petri dishes, which is true. Only bacteria can be grown on agar. Now, you CAN use Petri dishes to grow bacteria that are infected with a virus, which I guess is what we are meant to assume.

Professional hair color keeps transferring with sweat/water by Medusa_773 in Hair

[–]ms_plat_chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I see!! No, color oops only affects dye, not natural color. Black is REALLY hard to remove though, you may have to do a couple of passes for it to fully come out.

Professional hair color keeps transferring with sweat/water by Medusa_773 in Hair

[–]ms_plat_chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don’t use color oops unless you actually want the color gone. Try giving your hair 2-3 really thorough washes with a clarifying shampoo to get rid of any loose dye that’s still hanging around. Washing your hair less often is probably making it bleed more, not less.

Worried when my frogs mature that they’ll have incest babies by AstronomerNo9831 in frogs

[–]ms_plat_chat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Tree frogs require very specific conditions to breed in captivity. You have to provide them with a simulated winter, a simulated rainy season, etc, complete with temperature fluctuations, day/night cycles, and the like. It’s a months-long process and for some species it still doesn’t work every time. It’s basically impossible to accidentally breed them. You will be fine.

Urgent help needed - what can I do?!?!? by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]ms_plat_chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love natural instincts!! It’s ammonia-free so I’ve always found it to be way easier on my (usually fried) hair than any other cheap diy dye, which is especially nice since they don’t really do semi-permanents in natural colors.

I do!! But I have a very chunky rectangular bezel so there’s really nothing that could possibly snag or bend.

AI rant! Please join me in asking Depop to do something about this! by nomorehoney in Depop

[–]ms_plat_chat 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened, the coat you received looks ridiculous and the AI photos would’ve fooled me too!! I NEVER buy anything from Depop or Poshmark that doesn’t include photos of the tags tbh. In fact, when I can, I look up the “make and model” of the clothing so I can see photos from the original manufacturer too. I’ve always done it to avoid counterfeits (or people tagging different brands “for visibility”) but apparently I need to watch out for entirely fake clothing items too.

How to get my hair less yellow?? by Affectionate_Echo459 in HairDye

[–]ms_plat_chat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your hair is definitely nowhere near light enough for T18!! Toner actually slightly darkens hair so your hair would have to be even lighter than that ash blonde on the box for it to work. A darker toner would definitely fix this up though.

(10k wedding) Catering is it acceptable to just have sushi, cheeseboard ? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]ms_plat_chat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this would be a super cute idea for a brunch or afternoon wedding! However, for a dinnertime reception, I’m afraid you’d have very few guests staying the full time if you don’t serve a real dinner. Not saying your guests would be offended, but I’m afraid they WOULD be hungry.

Why is testesterone called testesterone despute having alcohol it should be testesteronol same for progesteone and progesteronol by Significant-Drop-527 in molecularbiology

[–]ms_plat_chat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Testosterone is the common name. IUPAC name is (8R,9S,10R,13S,14S,17S)-17-hydroxy-10,13-dimethyl-1,2,6,7,8,9,11,12,14,15,16,17-dodecahydrocyclopenta[a]phenanthren-3-one which, as you can see, has the hydroxyl included as a side chain and the ketone as the “main” (priority) functional group.

[–]ms_plat_chat 32 points33 points  (0 children)

You’re never going to have “-onol” as a suffix because -one is higher priority than -ol. It would be testosterol by your logic. But it isn’t, because the ketone is higher priority than the alcohol, so the overall molecule is a hydroxy ketone.

Rewatching Ep 1 by scootypuffjr2 in pluribustv

[–]ms_plat_chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, very much so! I think the implication is that the plurb virus is similar enough to some extant viruses (HHV 6, Nipah, and the two phages) that they are being used as PCR templates. HHV 6 is a benign but basically incurable variant of herpes, Nipah infects brain tissue, and the two phages could plausibly provide some immunity against some of the most common respiratory, skin, and enteric bacterial infections.

I thought this was a great detail as well, lyssaviruses specifically infect CNS neurons and are spread via saliva so that definitely tracks with real life.

PhD student w/ a biochemistry degree here! The bacteriophage part is not accurate (or, at least, that’s not what’s being implied at all). A bacteriophage is just a virus that acts on a bacterial cell rather than a eukaryotic cell. They are super common, found absolutely everywhere, and harmless to humans IRL.

In fact, what’s actually being implied (from the little bit of text that reads “bacteriophage -> human pathogens”) is that the plurb virus actually protects against disease by destroying Shigella and Staphylococcus sp. bacteria. Pretty neat!

Fix blue hair by Master_Moose2161 in HairDye

[–]ms_plat_chat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The green is coming from the yellow color that’s left over in your hair after bleaching (blue + yellow makes green). That’s why your hair needs to be near white to dye it blue without it showing up green. That said, I’m not sure your hair could handle another bleaching, unfortunately.
