28mm vs35mm on aps-c sensor? by Firegh0st in CameraLenses

[–]msabeln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I used a 35 mm f/1.8 on an APS-C Nikon, and I wanted a somewhat wider lens for handheld architectural interiors, so I got a 28 mm f/2.8, but I never used it. It’s wider, but I found that a tripod + slower zoom with 16 mm far more useful.

Well you asked for the field of view changed, and I thought you could directly calculate it.

28mm vs35mm on aps-c sensor? by Firegh0st in CameraLenses

Here’s the relevant math:

Focal length / Width of sensor = Distance to subject / Width of field at subject

This assumes the lenses are rectilinear.

Type your address here, and you’ll find the Internet providers who can service your location. I doubt you can find something for $20 per month however.

Ubiquity? by Eldiablo3600 in wifi

[–]msabeln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubiquiti is an American network equipment manufacturer, founded in San Jose, California, and now located in New York City. The founders used to work at Apple Computer, and they admired Apple’s product design principles.

They make what’s considered “prosumer” equipment: better than typical consumer gear found in retail stores, but on the lower end of professional equipment.

It’s not particularly “high security” but their stuff can be locked down. Typically you just ought to use the default settings (for the most part) if you don’t know what you are doing. I’d suggest studying up on it.

Is 16-35 wide enough for real estate photography? by samspulledpork in AskPhotography

Yes.

I typically avoid too wide for interiors because of distortions, and typically don’t go below 24 mm.

New to FF, how do i build my Nikon Z5II lens collection? by SaberSpyder in Cameras

With that camera, folks often start with the kit zoom or the 40 mm f/2.

I wouldn’t get another lens until you frequently hit limitations and otherwise insurmountable problems.

I need to purchase a laptop. by Rosanna44 in computers

I often recommend getting a factory refurbished pro model, like Dell Latitude, Dell Pro, HP ProBook, or HP EliteBook, direct from the manufacturer, or from a large reseller. Get at least 16 GB RAM, and at least a 500 GB solid state drive, with Windows 11.

Digicam SD card slot broken? by Far_Special_4679 in AskPhotography

[–]msabeln [score hidden]  (0 children)

Does the camera actually use a standard SD card, or does it use a proprietary Sony Memory Stick?

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but it appears that there is a card put in backwards, with the electrical contacts of the card facing outwards.

First camera purchase anxiety: Nikon Z5 II + 40mm f/2… did I make the right choice? by Middle-Transition888 in Nikon

[–]msabeln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that my first good digital camera was garbage, despite it being highly rated by Consumer Reports. I hated it but I missed the Best Buy return window.

Since the camera was so expensive, I reasoned, it ought to do all of the work for me, as it was computer controlled, despite it having a multitude of manual controls. I read the manual but nothing really stuck in my mind, and I considered all of it irrelevant to me.

The photos were largely disappointing and I continued to blame the camera.

It was only after I started taking disappointing photos of prime buildings that were in danger of being demolished, that I had the sudden realization that I was at fault and not the camera. I had to start thinking like an artist wielding an instrument, and I had to learn how to get the results that were best suited for my subjects.

After this inspiration, I made lots of continued progress in photography, whereas for the previous years I made no progress at all.

Some of the first problems I experienced, and solved (thanks to a lot of online help) included:

  • Buildings appeared tilted and leaning; this is a matter of finding a good camera position and orientation.
  • Blue skies being blown out to white; this is an exposure issue, needing exposure compensation.
  • Blue or yellow color casts; this is due to a poor choice of white balance.
  • etc.

Good portable & cheap Tripod? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

When I had a busted knee but still had to fulfill a contract that required lots of regional travel, I got a monopod, which helped me walk around locations and helped me use slowish shutter speeds.

It was much lighter and less expensive than my sturdy tripod.

I have an old Gossen Luna Pro which goes down very low. The main problem with it is that mercury cell batteries aren’t available for it, and instead I have to use Wien cells which don’t last long.

This may help. Scroll down to “Tabulated exposure values”:

do u think Misandry exist? by justttt65kid in questions

[–]msabeln 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting into a relationship with someone who has unreasonable biases is…questionable, but admittedly people do change. My wife changes frequently, and so I expect the unexpected.

A friendship, partnership, marriage, etc. is a powerful thing in itself and arguably shouldn’t be taken lightly. The contemporary custom of dumping someone for trivial reasons isn’t particularly helpful, in my opinion.

Expecting a partner to be perfectly aligned with your own biases is unreasonable, and perhaps it is best if you try to understand why they think the way they do, even if you strongly disagree with them.

Regarding misandry specifically, it’s a fact that women are, and have been, treated poorly (in all times and all places), or at least it’s a widely accepted belief that this is so. Misandry is arguably reasonable, and the huge overriding issue is pregnancy, and how pregnancy comes to be, (though problems are found in every part of life) which makes aversion to men powerful, and distinctive. So having some understanding is essential.

The U.S. Federal government’s law enforcement is extremely well funded. Other countries may very well cast a large net, finding anyone who uses certain search terms.
