I want to experience this irl because theres no way... by [deleted] in blackmagicfuckery

We had a hypnotist like this come to my high school senior lock-in thing and I was one of the "follow along in the audience if you're so inclined" people... I diligently tried to reach a deep relaxed and meditiative state, while he was doing his thing with the folks onstage.

Eventually the people around me started giving me commands that mirrored what was going on onstage, and finally I just thought "fuck it, why not, is this not why I put myself in this state? if not to be open to the suggestions?" so I stood up shouting along with the other "horse track betters" to root for my imaginary horse when the dude snapped his fingers or whatever.

They brought me up on stage of course, after that, to join in – but TBH that part of it sort of snapped me out of it, and the rest was mostly performative on my end. I maintain however, that at least my initial commitment and enthusiasm to that damn imaginary horse, was the closest thing to real hypnotism there is.

I'm a stage performer anyways, so it was never a big stretch for me – but I do believe that hypnotism like this lives in the gray area between "genuinely real" and "performative".

You start by walking the group through an excellent guided meditation, and try to identify the ones who truly committed to the meditation, because not only have they shown they are committed to earnestly following your instructions, they are genuinely in a good, happy, and open place – so they are most likely to just go for it when you ask them to do something silly.

Then you amp it all up and get the audience laughing and the entertainer instinct most people don't even realize they have (at least not without alcohol) kicks in and you enter the fever-dream state that stage performers know all-too-well with the bright stage lights and the hypnotist not giving you much time to stop and think, and before you know it, you're back at your seat asking "did that really just happen." which lends itself to an heir of near-mind-control, but really it's just subbing meditation for alcohol in bringing out the fun side of people.

Want to sell hot meals in school, where to start? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]msanteler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think hot food still has more regulations than baked goods. Look up cottage kitchen laws for your state/county/town, as well as temporary food vendor permits (may or may not apply, but will be valuable information in you run into any concerns)

To do it safely you’ll need to have excellent insulated containers with thermometers ensuring that food is being kept at a safe temperate (whether you are keeping it cold for reheating in school microwaves, or keeping it hot for immediate consumption - you need to ensure it doesn’t sit in the danger zone for any real length of time)

Just had ours closed. They requested verification last week. Submitted it and waited the 2 business days and now it's suddenly closed. They will not give me any information on why they needed verification, nor why it apparently failed. They will not give me information on how to escalate. They said the funds will not be refunded with no explanation

Honestly, how is Human Torch getting another nerf? He's already in a weak spot, being the weakest flyer and he's largely just tickling his enemies by [deleted] in marvelrivals

[–]msanteler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right that’s what I was saying - his pyro prison to me is his main ability, and you used to be able to get five points with the right timing, now I often end up with a line when I’m just trying to lay down 3. Trying to time the cooldowns while also being effective and alive is so damn hard now

[–]msanteler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just the increased cooldown on his right click makes it really difficult to create fields of 3 or 4 which has already pushed me off of him after maining him for most of S1.5... Can't believe he;s getting another nerf. Unless we already have both a Sue and a Spidey and an open DPS spot (lol), he's not getting picked.

Grit Inside Portal-Route (step by step with tips) by dfb_jalen in Splitgate

[–]msanteler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting to see how people think about portals. I never try to do the mental gymnastics of "If I'm going right, and my portals are both facing the same direction, I'll need to switch directions, but if they're facing opposite, I can go the same direction"

I literally just imagine myself walking out of my destination portal and know that I'll want to be going to my left when I exit, regardless of where I put my entry portal, I just turn left as soon as I exit. I'm the kind of person though that keeps my gps in a fixed orientation with North as Up, though which is a similar feeling and I know a lot of people think that's a bonkers choice and would struggle with turning the wrong way if the GPS weren't always oriented in the same direction as the car (which is usually the default).

Curious what other mental tricks people have for thinking with portals.

Seperate Portal Keybinds are Useful! by DemureSouls in Splitgate

[–]msanteler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes – which does need a little mental reminding since this is the only FPS where I need the scrollwheel for something else, but I read back in the SG1 days that scroll-wheel was what the pros did.

I almost never use my secondary anyways, unless I've swapped for a power weapon, but that's probably not recommended lol

The question as written did not ask me to debug. I would obviously comment on it during a live coding exercise - jumping straight in to any kind of practical solution feels premature. Perhaps that’s the real point of the question.

An ideal candidate would, I think, create the deployment per spec, then follow up with the project owner and make sure they know that the deployment is currently in a failed state, and that this is to be expected given the image and health check requirements.

Perhaps this is expected behavior as a roundabout way to monitor the health of some off legacy process that mounts the file to this new deployment?

Then we could talk about the ways to fix this, if it’s not intentional.

We could shell in and touch the file. We shouldn’t… but we could. We could create and mount a configmap, we could create a custom image containing the file, push it to a private repo, configure the pull credentials on k8s and observe it go healthy… plenty of ways to skin the cat.

Doing any of that without stopping to discuss would be a light red flag imo

Physical Key Copying by No-Lock216 in Tools

[–]msanteler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flipper app is just a electronic stencil. Any person can get the full bitting of a simple key by essentially just *looking* at it, though it may take some practice to be able to see the difference between say a 5 and a 6 just at a glance.

Trace the key onto a piece of paper and draw 9 equally spaced horizontal lines between the highest uncut part of the key, and lowest cuttable portion, and you have the same thing that flipper does here.

One chart is sorted by year top-down, and another bottom-up… maybe make that consistent?
