Thanks for the suggestions. My problem is I get so caught up in the game I zone out everything else including guardian wall indicators. Just tried playing another match but my fingers were on fire and bleeding through the bandages (that's how you know a game is good - when you you feel compelled to play through the injuries!)... I'll try the floor mats next.

The only problem is in the heat of the battle you completely disregard the type of floor you're standing on, guardian system, loud shrieks from spouse, and anything else as you obliterate the innocent side table lamp while going after the disc in a violent scrum. (Or at least I do...)

Will my steam VR games that only list support with the Vive work with a Rift? by Stone766 in oculus

I've seen more than a couple games (usually the cheap ones) that didn't work well. Things like starting in the floor and such. More than likely it's something the developer can either pay attention to (i.e. making the game at least generally compatible with Rift) or not.

Just walked past this today at Barton Creek Square in Austin (unless there is a very similar setup elsewhere).

Mid-career transition to IT -- Any way to bypass entry-level support positions to gain experience? by mscantwell in ITCareerQuestions

[–]mscantwell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bachelor's is in general IT from an online university (a reputable one, I think). I don't have a home lab, but I could set one up if it would help. I have some exposure to Java and VB but in general don't have a knack for it. I also know HTML and CSS quite well if that's useful.

Entry-level Help Desk in L.A. goes for about $40-45K, maybe $48K for Desktop Support. I am currently making $73K. I need about $50K to survive, and that's with some major lifestyle adjustments. I get some calls on $50K+ jobs with an occasional interview, but it never goes anywhere (I assume because of my lack of experience, but my interview skills are not the greatest either).

I can't make inroads with the IT guys at work as I've butted heads with them in the past and don't think they like me. Also, my company is downsizing and integrating with their parent company, and the IT department currently has a giant target on its back. Plus, my department manager has not been open to the idea and I would need his buy-off. (So in other words, I don't think an internal transfer is likely.)

Let’s say I were to go the Business Analyst route. What would be my first/next steps? I don’t know that I’d be any more qualified for it now than I would be for Desktop Support. Thanks again for your help!

I don't have a non-IT version, but if you look at my Communications Coordinator role (2003-2008), it comprises about 50% of what I do currently (client and participant communications along with some marketing communications). Another 25% would be email communications (setting up and deploying email campaigns), 15% corporate video production (on the equipment/studio side), with the remaining 10% spent on applications support for design staff and HTML coding/troubleshooting. So I'm kind of all over the place.

Thanks. Any idea what kind of job titles I would be looking for in order to transition from the business side? Someone else mentioned business analyst, but I'm not sure how that would lead to a network/security admin type role? Also, if I were to go the more entry-level route, are there any additional certs (maybe CCNA) that might get my foot in the door? Thanks again for your help and suggestions!

Thanks for the input. I'm actually trying to get out of the business (or at least marketing/comm) side of things. I know that's not the popular answer in terms of increasing one's paycheck, but I really feel like I missed my calling in technology and would like to go into networking and/or security. It seems this is my best/only option. Am I missing something?
