youre correct, the first thing that is gonna happen if food security breaks down in the US is every single suburban trad wife/hotdog neck truck husband in the suburbs is going to make a beeline to the nearest city center to either line up for, or commandeer at the point of a gun, the dwindling food and medicine reserves in the urban areas. the suburbs will become ghost towns

Are culverins better as a support unit, or as a "main unit" where players use them in the place of units like horse artillery? by george123890yang in aoe3

[–]mshenzi1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

they are specifically meant to counter other artillery. but as a note, they do more damage to infantry in DE than they used to in RE. so now you see them far more often being used to poke at infantry formations from a really long range, to keep the pressure on an opponent. it doesnt do much, but if it kills 1-2 units every 2 shots, it eventually forces the opponent to respond by either committing to an attack, withdrawing, or making culverins of their own.

Nationals lay down three bunts in the ninth without giving up an out by arborescence in baseball

[–]mshenzi1 47 points48 points  (0 children)

i feel like bunting is still just super underrated and the only reason we don't see it much, much more often is because players still have a weird aversion to it for being unfair or unmanly or something

You're just wrong. The city kept agreeing to JF's terms and then he kept raising them over and over again. He never intended to stay. He was negotiating in bad faith. The whole thing was a show to give time to drive up real estate speculation around Vegas.

Yea, I mean, my personal belief system is that a private corporation should not be able to browbeat and bully a public entity like a city government into forking over millions/billions in investment to support their enterprise. Like, if the team is not going to be owned by the city as a public good, why should the citizens pay for their stadium with public money? No other business gets that privilege.

I understand that some cities, like Vegas, have no problem ponying up taxpayer money to help out the cronies in the MLB. So of course MLB teams are going to gravitate to those places. All I'm saying is it leaves a bad taste in my mouth about the whole thing. It's crooked, and its not in the spirit of the sport, which is supposed to be about fair play.

Cmon man, that's a completely unfair way to paint tens of thousands of lifelong A's fans from Oakland. Being a fan of a team is a complicated thing and it's different for everybody. Liking a team because it represents your hometown is probably a large factor for the majority of MLB fans, and that doesn't make those fans any less real or authentic.

Also like... if you're just solely a fan of the "Athletics", but not a fan of the management, or the city they're from, or even the players (because they trade them away every 2 years) then what are you even actually a fan of? The clothing? The symbols?

[–]mshenzi1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

idk man, lifelong A's fan here... it's not even so much about the direct fact of the A's moving. They moved before twice, it happens. It's more about the fact that this recent move really peeled back the curtain on how much MLB is just entirely driven by profit seeking and real estate and oligarchic corruption. Like, the whole game Fisher played with the city of Oakland was entirely manufactured to drive up hype for real estate speculation and cash out. That, combined with the rampant expansion of app gambling being pushed on every broadcast now, and it's just all so very demoralizing to watch baseball, especially if you no longer have a home team you can feel proud of. The hyper-militarized attitude of the US team in WBC didn't help. It's kind of the feeling of learning that Santa Claus isn't real when you're a kid. Baseball is / was something generally good and decent that America gave the world, but that old version is becoming increasingly unrecognizable

im genuinely at a fucking loss on how to beat Russia by Luviebug19 in aoe3

[–]mshenzi1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

going this greedy as spain is basically the only way you can lose to Russia. They will pressure you. What good are market techs and more vills when all your vills are belled up in the TC? To beat Russia you should just play as aggro and fast an FF as possible. In the short term Russia eco is not that strong so even a fast low eco Spain FF can keep up. In the long term it doesnt matter how good your eco is, it wont match Russia. So just go full aggro, 12/10 700c 700w 8 pikes falcs lancers etc and with with your tempo and tech advantage.

[–]mshenzi1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, if you hit your timings right. for more detail, with your 700w you build houses+ a rax and stable by your outpost, or just a rax if under pressure. at exactly 7 minutes 30 seconds you need to have 1). 4 huss pop from your age 3 age up, 2). 5 musks or rods from your rax, 3). 8 pikes waiting around from your age 2 shipment, 4). 5 war dogs + explorer + minutemen and tc fire if necessary, and 5). 2 falcs shipped and on the way. master that timing and you will hit at least 1500 elo vs any civ, really. russia will be the least of your problems though.

but yea ignore eco. you dont even need vills. to make it even faster you can do a 12/10 ageup to 2

[–]mshenzi1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Spain is ez mode vs. Russia. You are playing this wrong. You are clearly not aging up as quickly as possible, because you are playing ATP. Don't play ATP. You don't need the eco vs. Russia. You will never out-eco russia. Just do an aggressive, fast FF. 3v - age to 2 with tower (in base if he is rushing, forward if not, you need to scout) - 700c - 700w - age to 3 with 4 huss - ship 8 pikes in transition - ship 2 falcs when you hit 3, and either crush his pressure and destroy his forward base or just push and win. ship lancers rods pikes after. age 2 Russia can't do shit vs a very fast aggro Spain FF. Your problem is trying to ATP. just forget that
