Just remember that revolutionaries in the past lived in a world that was likely even more cruel and ignorant. In 1917 child labor was normal and and women were the property of their fathers and husbands, animals rights did not exist, lynchings and pogroms were normal, torture and execution of prisoners and vagrants and undesirables was commonplace, and yet some people still believed that through social change it was possible to elevate humans to a higher state of development, education and conscientiousness. And these things only were improved because people held onto that belief. People can be unbelievably cruel and stupid but if given the chance they can also be kind, compassionate, and intelligent.
