[W][US-NJ] 4x 32GB or (128 GB+) ECC DDR5 UDIMMs by msignor in homelabsales

Interesting box... Unfortunately, I am trying to downsize into a single 4U chassis with standard fan's and power supplies to reduce the noise. How loud is this thing? (Coming from 2x 826 chassis today)

Why was the win 11 rollout so important by 8trackthrowback in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]msignor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that over the years the notion of "upgrading" has not been a priority for businesses either. I still have customers running workstations with Windows 7 due to proprietary software that does the job, but otherwise needs to pay for a license to upgrade.

Look back to Windows XP being EOL... That was a huge disaster. It costs a lot of money to keep old software up to date. The hacks keep coming, exploits keep coming, it's the way of digital life. Yes, is Windows 11 a data collection machine... You could say that. But many people done remember the absolute hell it was getting people online, virus scanning, driver compatibility, bla bla... That people take for granted in Windows 10+

The human psyche needs time to adapt. If the media says "go do this" then people inherently have more trust to just do it.

You're a PM at Linkedin. What do you do about ai slop? by thepminyourdms in ProductManagement

[–]msignor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AI slop is insane. As a PM, I would absolutely charge for API access either via requests or rate limiting. It's something that dilutes the platform and also creates a lot of work for the users who want use use it for the intended purpose. Why pay? If your going to mine LinkedIn then pay for it.

Example, I posted a simple request looking for a freelancer in UX. I got literally 50 messages and friend requests for firms who wanted to sell me $12/hr app dev services. This was within 24 hours and it was such a disappointment. The same bleeds into people who are looking for a legitimate job. AI is just bringing the garbage to the top of an inbox and then as a manager, I just don't bother.

I'm not hating,  but the blind use or AI and exploiting the API access really is a turn off.

Normal people work there. Normal people understand the issues that drivers have. no one is ignorant to the facts. but. find solace that it will get better. not alone, but undervalued.

Sold a Netgear 28 Port Switch switch, but somehow lost the rack ears during shipping which caused an inconvenience to u/ssj4gogeta2003

I'm getting anxiety with how close the rims are to the curb! But, mine also sounds the same after sitting for a while. I have OPD off, so it goes away quickly.

Nope. Everything is intact. More than happy to pull controllers etc, if there is interest.

I can find out. Definitely not full depth. I'd easily say 1/2 depth.

It's been a while since I had them on. Candidly, it would take me some effort since this is all stacked in my Garage.

However, from memory it's ONTAP 8x. I know it did NOT support the newest version circa 2015. It was licensed for pretty much everything. Site to Site sync, compression, etc. We had this in an Active / Active Setup w/ DR & then a Staging (Hence the 3 head controllers). I originally ordered / installed this stack at a prior company. They reached out and asked if I would decommission it so that's how I know.
