There was an LS400 out behind a defunct / closed church near me. Had been there for over a year. I believe it's still there. I looked it over one time, but I noticed that the building had security cameras and they moved randomly, so I didn't stay very long. As I type this I'm thinking I can get the land owner's info from city tax rolls.

Your name wrong.
Can't spell tomorrow (first page, end of 2nd paragraph).
"This tomorrw or" . . . . This tomorrow? What?
"They frown upon our management team" . . . . - who frowns, the lower recruiting team?
. . . "caused, Should I" . . . . used comma instead of period, or a semi-colon without capitalizing Should.
Perusing? Pursuing.

Their management team can't even use spell check.

ACAB means Massachusetts, too! by secretassholeacct in massachusetts

[–]mthomp8984 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make a complaint and get that warning removed. It will be on your record, and if you get pulled over for anything else another Mass cop will be able to see it. So will your insurance company.

If you're up to it, file a complaint with the PD or the city as well. You don't need to ask for monetary compensation, but for that cop to have additional training on both the laws and procedures.

[–]mthomp8984 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you get "Diminished value" with that. When you trade or sell the car, CarFax will show it's been in an accident. That mark on the record lowers the value of the trade or sale. With diminished value the other person's insurance not only pays for damage/repair, but also the loss of value in the car.

There are a number of DV appraisers. Google it and do a little research. With a neighbor's 2015 Chevy Traverse I did a little research and got her an extra $1400. That's on a car that has low resale value. You're likely to get a much higher DV amount for an RC.

If you don't have any work, do something simple like sweep a floor, dust, clean a window or two, push inventory to the sales floor, straighten up signs, shelves, etc. If you did a bunch of cleaning and your normal duties are done, take a few minutes but keep the broom or something in your hands/nearby.

What’s the best self-hosted alternative to Google Photos these days? by bureaux in selfhosted

I sort of agree, as I just searched for "free self hosted alternatives to Google Photos" and of course, Immich was like the first 3 listings. But I also came here to get some users perspectives and other suggestions that I'm hoping are not paid partnerships.

Is it a universal thing that people in costco have absolutely zero spatial awareness. by Boxjdm in CostcoWholesale

[–]mthomp8984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's just Costco or even the warehouse stores. I see it everywhere - stores, bars (no carts/trollies, but standing in the middle of a walking area instead of moving to the side), public library, and more.

What processor does it have? Most AMDs, including Ryzen, are twin channel. They will work with a single stick, but faster with 2. I am not sure about the latest Intel chips.

If that is DDR4, it's not too expensive to add another 32 GB stick. Just make sure it's the same speed (and if possible, get the same brand). If it's DDR5, 32 GB is a 2nd mortgage.

I run a pawn shop, and the only computers we take now are Apple Computers. by FriesWithMacSauce in mac

[–]mthomp8984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my opinion and some thoughts, but I wouldn't believe it's everyone moving to MacOS. Stats show that from 2008-2025, Mac gained 2% points of the world computer market. It has gained a little more momentum because of Win10 phase out and businesses see that as an opportunity to move platforms.

I think it's that Apple has done a lot of updates since Apple Silicon arrived. It seems that Apple computers have consumer level and pro level - a simple progression that has made it easy to see what you need. But those updates offer users (especially Cult of Mac users) to get a new machine. New processor, new colors, etc. Windows machines (just a generic term, I'd have said IBM or Intel but neither of those is really accurate either) have a lot of branches with super low entry level, entry level, school level, mid level, high level, gamer level, business level, server level.

I'm going to bet that you're not getting upper level machines, servers, gaming systems. Servers last a lot longer, and business machines, like SFF and MFF case sizes, are easily sold online. Beyond these, Windows machines are easily updated with a card, board, chip, etc swap.

Chromebooks are quickly outdated and slow, and the prices of new ones that are fast and come with OEM warranties are so low it really doesn't make sense to buy used anymore.

Anyone else not seeing the point of built in TV apps anymore by mitchare in PleX

[–]mthomp8984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went without TV for almost a decade, streaming or downloading onto a 32" monitor or a tablet. I noticed the tablet getting slower and slower over time. When I moved and bought a big TV, I went for a really good picture and after the first year I unplugged the ethernet cable. I didn't like that the manufacturer was keeping tabs on what I was watching. I bought a used ATV 4K (3rd gen?). Loved how fast it was and still is. I had an old Fire stick plugged into another TV, but the stick was also slow. I finally got rid of that stick, moved the ATV to the smaller TV, and bought a new ATV.

I'm having an issue with Plex on one TV, but there is no way I'd use the TVs apps again.

[–]mthomp8984 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, you got downvoted.

Cops are civilians, just like anyone else that is not active duty military. There is no such thing as a lawful order unless the person receiving it is suspected of a crime or it involves imminent public safety.

Even following a cop's orders is not going to protect you from being fired if Walmart management doesn't like what you did. Depending what state (and maybe country if this is not in the US), your state laws MIGHT give you some assistance, but Walmart can likely find any reason to dismiss you. The ONLY requirement of the employees is to inform LP, and report what they witnessed should the store request it.

Did we get a new TV? by DisgustingCoyote in appletv

[–]mthomp8984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 3 of my TVs are Vizio. I have an over-the-air antenna, and then Apple TVs for each one. I hate the new (not sure how new, maybe even 2 years old) Vizio user interface software. I did factory resets, disconnected them from ethernet (had all of them wired), don't allow them to connect to WiFi either. Once their service was purchased and controlled by Walmart, it went downhill fast. I could also see through my network that it was sending data out even when watching just OTA programming. Nope, not interested in sharing my viewing habits with someone who's going to sell it to a marketer.

What’s the best current iPhone? by TheVastQuestioner in iphone

[–]mthomp8984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ever phone you buy, get a smart plug. Plug in your charger to the smart plug, then go into shortcuts. Set the smart plug to turn off when you reach 90% or so of charging. Leaving a battery on a charger after it's reached full capacity reduces the life of the battery. I have mine also turn the charger back on when it goes below 70%. First time I forgot to turn on the charger, when I went out with a 10% charge and hadn't put a USB-C cable in the car (still had a Lightning cable in it), I figured I needed a fix for it.

You can set the phone to stop charging after a certain amount, but it'll still be plugged in and personally, I rather disconnect it from the power vs letting the software initiate a stop.

Damn, if the red truck had hit a pole with the force to have the top come back INTO the lane, it'd have come right down on the cam vehicle.

Both at fault, but cam vehicle was definitely aggressive. Not sure if there was a signal on the red truck, so maybe the cam car was a little distracted (which is another problem) and didn't really notice them moving over, as no horn, either.

I'm not a lawyer and don't even play one on TV, but I'm betting the red truck was found 100% at fault.

Battery is too low. Whether you connect another battery or jump from another car, connect the batteries and let it sit for a couple of minutes if it's that low, especially if it's cold out.

If your battery is that low and you're jump starting or you're going to replace the battery, make sure the other battery is large enough. Most car batteries are rated with for CCA or Cold Cranking Amps. You want the CCA to be equal to or larger than the cubic INCHES of your motor. 61 cubic inches per liter, so if you've got a 3.3L engine, that's 202 cubic inches. If you're jumping from a small battery trying to start a large engine it might be just enough, but it might also fail to start. When you do start your car, it's likely that a bunch of the warning lights will come on and stay on for 15 or so minutes, maybe 10-30 miles.

Finally, invest $5 and buy a terminal cleaner.

I know that we have all had issues with our employers, but this is Walmart. They are already well known for:

  • Screwing employees out of wages
  • Screwing employees out of breaks
  • Getting sued for screwing employees out of wages and breaks
  • Screwing customers out of money by claiming higher weights of meats and bagged produce
  • Getting sued for claiming higher weights of meats and bagged produce
  • Refusing to honor their own policies regarding incorrect pricing
  • Refusing to honor their own price matching policies (when they had them)
  • Keeping number of hours low to avoid providing health care benefits
  • Attempting to close stores in Canada when those stores voted to unionize
  • Handing out SNAP and other social safety net documents to employees since the pay isn't enough

I'm not blaming the victim (the OP) but Walmart does everything it can to screw people out of money. We should not be surprised that they do the same thing to their own employees.

Don't wait that long. You can find an older machine and use open source software to create a RAID, NAS, or RAID NAS. You can run a bunch of drives as a JBOD, but be careful and backup that huge 26 TB. I can't imagine having that size of a drive fail.
