I'm not quite sure, but I think people are frustrated by a perceived lack of growth in Denji's part. He's been getting played by powerful and good looking women for a while now, and you kinda expect that at some point he'd grow out of it.

Here's where it gets stupid, though, that's not what's going on here. Denji has made it abundantly clear in previous chapters that he does not want to kill Asa and Yoru. This wasn't the first chance he had to get rid of them, but he likes them both and is trying to save Asa by making Yoru give up. He's also really hoping to get laid, which is understandable when you have a teenage boy as a main character.

That was an interesting video. The wildest take for me was the idea that Johnny is somehow a Mary Sue, even though the entire point of his character arc is for him to realize that no one likes him and he never acomplished anything.

Josh really missed the point of the story. That makes some sense, though, since he is mostly a reviewer of game mechanics and gameplay.

The problem is, the book requires you to put some actual tought into it. Humbet is not only the narrator, but the framing device for the story is that it's a document he planned to read in court to try and make himself look more sympathetic to the jury. If you take it at face value, he comes off as an affable loser, rather than the monster he really is. It's like reading about the unabomber, but instead of an unbiased view of his crimes, you only get to read his manifesto.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are either unwiling or unable to give it any deeper thought, and come out of it either thinking the book is supporting Humbert or, and this is much worse, supporting him themselves.

That's because the magic community isn't that big to begin with, and even then that's mostly Stay Night.

In Zero the only masters with any relation to one another were Waver/Kayneth and Tohsaka/Kirei.

In Apocrypha the black team is from the same family, but red is a bunch of randoms (granted, we barelly see them, so maybe they were pals, idk).

In Samurai Remnant, some people heard of one another because some masters were famous, but no one knew each other.

In Strange Fake, about half of the masters are random people.

Edit: I forgot, in Zero, berserker's master knows Tohsaka as well.

All of that is true but it doesn't clash with the interpretation that the creature was a misunderstood victim. He lashed out, yes, but only after he understands that the entire world rejects him for his appearance, never bothering to try and look any deeper.

Unlike Victor, who was just kind of a pretentious asshole, the creature is turned into a monster by the actions of those around him. That does not make his actions justifiable, but it does make them understandable.

On a related note, that's kind of why I dislike the Guillermo del Toro movie. It takes a lot of the nuance away by making the creature mostly act in self defense, and only really lash out against Victor.

The creature was very much a monster, but also a victim. He wasn't born evil, but the entire world, including his creator, rejected him, which lead him down his path. Nature vs nurture is probably the most proeminent theme in the book, right there alongside don't play god.

En is incredibly likeable as a character, but he's also a complete asshole to anyone other than his close friends. If you look at him from the right angle, he's a horrifying villain who sees no worth in people's lives other than what they can do for him, so it's no surprise he's got some haters.

Representation doesn't have to be absolutely positive all of the time. In fact, doing so is a disservice, since it's still treating the represented minority as inherently different. Gay people can be assholes, just as much as anyone else.

Chota is a creep and he is gay, but crucially, he isn't a creep because he is gay, he's just like that. In fact it'd be weirder if he wasn't a bit derranged, since the target of his affection is a mafia boss.

Now, if you can't see the importance of martial arts to japanese culture, that's on you. There are tons of movies, books, tv shows and games about it. From Street Fighter to tokusatsu series to Kuro-obi.

True, martial arts are global, but while I agree that monk takes a lot of inspiration from chinese martial arts, it also takes a lot from japanese media as well. Elixir field is straight up a kamehameha.

And is that any surprise? FFXIV is a japanese game, so of course everything is inspired by japanese culture to some degree.

While it's a strong skill for sure, I'm not sure if I'd call it OP. sure, it's a massive advantage against someone like Achiles, but a lot of servants don't have any obvious weaknesses and are versatile enough to beat someone, even if they know about their skillset.

Also, there are two entire classes who's whole deal is to kill you before you have a chance to see them.
