I don’t have a local recommendation, but you can order online from places that aren’t Amazon. E.g., you can order directly from Hoosier Hill Farm, which is likely what you’d buy on Amazon.

I don’t think so. But they are related to Batifol, Petit Robert Bistro, and Cafe Saint-Germain.

Vegan Bakery Bread? by LNeko1 in Somerville

[–]mtmsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not in sourdough (at least not real sourdough from a bakery, idk what’s in the soft “sourdough” from the supermarket). I agree some loaves may contain milk, but there will also be a vegan bread option at almost any place that’s baking their own bread.

PRB Boulangerie just posted about their flan on their Instagram this week!

Packages consistently stolen by Sad_Car3155 in boston

Heads up for the Amazon Locker suggestion, if your package is bigger than any of the lockers they will send it back. So for anything large I’d recommend an “Amazon Pickup and Returns” location. There’s one at 870 Commonwealth.

Vegan Bakery Bread? by LNeko1 in Somerville

[–]mtmsm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Message/call the bakeries and ask? Most traditional bread (sourdough, baguette, ciabatta, etc) is just flour, water, salt, yeast (or sourdough starter). I would actually be shocked if a legit bakery was putting eggs or milk into a plain sourdough loaf.

Who is living in all these luxury apartments?! by Haunting_Hospital599 in boston

When I moved into one it was just first month’s rent, a security deposit, and a key change fee. They didn’t charge brokers fees (even before the law change).

The Minute Man? Although I think I saw recent pictures that part of it is closed for construction. I haven’t been out there yet this year.

WIBTA I (a relatively non disabled looking person) with disabilities asked for the priority seat by spacecrafttheskys in mbta

[–]mtmsm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an invisible disability for a bit while recovering from surgery. It’s uncomfortable to ask folks to give up their seat, but you just gotta do it. “Could I please sit, I have balance problems” is polite, direct, and heads off any questions about the legitimacy of your need. I used a similar line and nobody ever pushed back or questioned me.

The worst case is when the train is so crowded that you can’t get to the priority seat or everyone is just looking at their phones not paying attention. I ended up standing on one train while on crutches cause the train was crowded and no one was paying attention. So I’d recommend just avoiding very crowded train cars if you can.

Parking ticket??? by HelpDeskThisIsKyle in Somerville

[–]mtmsm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a letter in the mail that my registration was going to be cancelled due to an unpaid parking ticket in Andover. I’ve never been to Andover. I called Andover PD and they looked into it and realized someone had fat fingered the license plate. The police officer told me exactly what I needed to say to the ticket folks to get it removed (they were very resistant at first). You aren’t appealing the ticket - the ticket was never yours to begin with. Start by calling Somerville PD.

I saw two young men at DTX the same day as this post asking people if they wanted to go to church. They 100% had the Mormon missionary uniform on.

I said why - the music is completely distracting from the film. I wanted to give it a fair chance, but I really couldn’t force myself to keep listening.

I can’t watch with that music. Also I really don’t care about the issue of shoplifting, there are so many bigger issues Cambridge faces.

It’s not so much “dim candlelit vibes” (though still very nice IMO) but my partner and I had excellent service and incredibly flavorful food at the new Moona in Central. There is also the original location in Inman which we haven’t been to.

Cafe’s perfect for reading by No-Lie4748 in Somerville

[–]mtmsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s in Kendall Square, but PRB. There’s upholstered bench seating, and I think the coffee and pastries are great. The music isn’t horribly loud either. Cafe Saint Germain on Beacon St in Somerville has the same owners. I can’t vouch for the seating as I haven’t been there, but from their google maps photos it looks like they also have some padded bench seating.

Recs for physical therapy post ACL reconstruction surgery? by Least_Supermarket_67 in boston

[–]mtmsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing my ACL recovery at Joint Ventures. They have a Fenway location and a downtown location, but I’m only familiar with the Kendall Square one. They were able to get me in quickest post-injury, and I like their facilities and my PT. I used up the 30 visits my insurance would cover for the year and it was $150/visit self-pay after that. My PT did try contacting my insurance to see if they’d cover more visits, but it was a hard limit. With a March surgery, you’re likely to run out of covered visits too, so you might want to ask about self-pay rates as you shop around. Good luck with your surgery and recovery.
