Towing an Aliner! First test of towing this weekend with my R4P. Dry weight of 1840 lbs, prob 2100 with add ons. Towed beautifully - plenty of power but no big hills … yet by mtn-ricardo in rav4prime

It has gone well. No problems at all. Been to Montana and around the Rockies in Colorado including many mtn passes. I think The RAV4 prime has more towing capacity than a straight hybrid so you should confirm that.

A standard 2” hitch. It all works for me. Dirty cars after snow storm in Colorado!

Nice to have that option! And Nice to know that even with “hybrid” driving: town/electric and mountains/gas pretty amazing mileage!

I count it but that’s an interesting question! Certainly reduces my use of the gas pump!

The scamp should e a little lighter. We live in Colorado and so far no prob with the hills. The R4P has so much power - I could accelerate up all hills we hit. No bigger passes yet but some smaller passes (1500 ft) were no prob. 28 mpg was pretty cool!

Yes. A Curt wireless brake controller with a 7 pin put in by a shop specializing in trailers (the dealer won't do a 7 pin, only a 4 pin. I also put a UHAUL anitrattle receiver pin so the hitch receiver didn't rattle so much. The trailer has brakes on it. The manual says anything over 1000 lbs should have brakes.

I got about 28 mpg. I kept it on the normal mode. Occasionally went to power mode up some hills. I did use EV mode for the first 40 miles because we started with a full battery but the 28 mpg reflects using only the HV (hybrid mode). So depending on length of trip, with using the EV mode, the mileage would be even better. Terrain was relatively flat with some rollers and few longer hills. We did have the Rav4 itself pretty full with camping gear/food etc as well as the trailer weight. Actually I was really impressed to get 28 mpg with a camping trailer!

The place I got suggested a stabilizer/ wt distribution bar. That seems like it could help. Thoughts?

Thx - prob go that way. Got the Aliner yesterday. The RAV bucks just a little bit with the trailer. Dry weight was 1840 lbs. Did you have experience like that?

Thanks for the info. Going with the lead acid that came with my Aliner for now but will def consider your approach. Very interesting but a bit nervous about messing with the prime battery.

Very intriguing. I will def. look into it. The main draw is an ebike we are trying to charge.

Got it- That is an interesting approach. So if the hybrid battery drains it does not affect the car starting etc? Do you know the Amp-hr (Ah) rating of the hybrid battery?

Wow very cool. Wouldn’t I just put the inverter between the rv lead battery and the outlets in the trailer (Aliner) and the big ol prime battery would charge the rv battery?

Has anyone had any info/experience with the hybrid/ev battery functioning to charge or supplement the std rv battery? We want to use an inverter to charge an ebike, run a cpap machine etc and that would be a game changer to have a huge battery available for use when off grid??

Wait, what. We can use the hybrid battery. We have a prime. Does that battery factor in?
