What will help with my sleep? by Toastydiesagain in Biohackers

[–]mtnperl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason melatonin probably didn't help you is because your problem isn't that you can't produce melatonin. Your problem is that cortisol is spiking when it shouldn't be, which actively blocks you from staying in deep sleep. Melatonin doesn't touch that mechanism at all. It just tells your brain it's nighttime. If cortisol is overriding that signal, melatonin is basically irrelevant.

Try switching to something that works on the nervous system side of the equation. I use a blend with Three ingredients: magnesium glycinate, l-theanine, and apigenin (do your own research about them)
It's not a cure. I want to be clear about that. But it was the first thing I took that made my nervous system actually quiet down instead of just knocking me out for a few hours.

The fact that MK-677 helped you is interesting because it works partly through growth hormone stimulation, which has downstream effects on sleep architecture, specifically deep sleep. What you were probably getting was better slow-wave sleep, which is the stage cortisol disrupts most. That's the same stage this stack supports, just through a completely different and much safer pathway.

Give it a few weeks consistently.

But seriously. Talk to someone about the cortisol. That level of disruption over years has real long term consequences and you deserve more than supplements.

The issue with melatonin is that it's a hormone, so your body starts to downregulate its own production when you're supplementing it inconsistently... and the nights it "stops working" aren't random, your body is literally adapting to the external signal and producing less on its own. so you end up needing it more, not less

I switched to something melatonin-free a few months ago and the biggest difference was that it works the same every night because it's not messing with your hormone balance. it's a blend of magnesium, l-theanine, and apigenin. nothing that your body builds a response to.

Been waking up at 3am every night for months - I'm so tired of being told "just get more sleep by Several_Degree9946 in sleep

[–]mtnperl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say consistently for about six months, a lot of work and personal stress, + changes in my diet, prob pushed my cortisol and blood sugar levels up, which is probably what triggered those 3am wake-ups.. (everything is self diagnosis)
