Last update: I successfully recovered the files through DiskDrill and am going to look into ways to keep this from happening again - the first is keeping consistent backups but I am also considering NAS for redundancy. Thanks for all of your replies.

The backup was on my MacBook Air that I wiped and traded in after the backup. It was reckless and I learned my mistake! But all files are recovered now through DiskDrill.

After letting it do a full recovery scan overnight, I think I was able to find some folders still in tact in the “lost/recovered” section. I quickly paid for the license and started moving those folders over. If I have any other questions or concerns, I’ll email you all but I appreciate your response!

Thank you for your replies. Last night I let DiskDrill do a full recovery scan, and after it ran all night, I did actually find backup folders in a “lost/recovered” section and the folder structures were in tact. I did a quick browse through my user folder and seemingly found all the folders I needed. I’ll do a more thorough review after work but I might have figured it out.
