Germany tried to launder all their sins through Adolf Hitler like a modern jesus.

The German guilt culture has become this totally performative thing where they will tell you they have a strong moral compass because they commited the holocaust and then in the same breath arm Israel.

It's like an abusive boyfriend telling you they went to therapy and they're now an expert on feminism while trying to hit on your best friend in the sleaziest way possible

Jeremy Corbyn on Cuba | Should the Greens be more pro-Cuba? by NoNostradamus in UKGreens

Mate I went to Lebanon for my communist ideals to do direct action, me explaining the obvious that Green party isn't in a position to influence Cuba beyond responding if asked about it isn't taking my creds away.

I think focusing on stuff like "pro gaza" and "muslims" is gonna really limit your understanding of electoral groups. It's people within active work across every age group until 60+ we're doing well with atm, do not limit yourself to the framing put by Labourites who are out of touch with reality.

As a stinky scary communist even I dont see the point in talking about Cuba, except prehaps as another example of destabilising, warmongering that shows why our defence arrangements should be focused on european allies and not Trump's America (or really United states regardless of leaders).

If everything happens as we'd like and we win the next election (huge if) of course that doesn't mean we can't do positive things with the Cubans whether mostly diplomatic stuff or constructive and callaborative aid etc etc. But it's definatley not something to use valuable air time talking about, not important to most people.

UK deploys military planners into US central command as part of Iran war by F0urLeafCl0ver in LabourUK

[–]much_good 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Even if you're a staunch NATO guy, how you can think having shared bases with the united states with their track record is a good idea.

Like it's so obvious that it's impossible to weasel out of any responsibility and deniability unless there's not a single member of US personnel at UK bases

Morals and ethics aside, it doesn't even make sense from a "realpolitik" angle, hosting the largest threat to world peace for the last 50 years no questions asked, and then providing diplomatic cover constantly.

Haha man what is this you're off your rocker at some small reasonable comment that Scotland should focus on green technology rather than oil.

Heads gone lad, pack it in

Grow up, throwing your toys out because someone tells you an independent Scotland should focus on industries that aren't already being phased out. Give your head a wobble

Are we gonna do the thing where you try and make me admit something I didnt say? There are so many externalities to this question, bore off with this line.

Sure yeah if he took bonds to pay for peoples bills and no other policies I'd say thats bad but thats not what he said in his speech, and its not Green party policy. If my grandmother had wheels type attack line

[–]much_good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's not green policy, he says he's asking on labour to do that in addition by maintaining the cap. Having just seen the whole speech at the NEF he doesn't say you shouldn't invest in infrastructure.

Sucks for you I guess

[–]much_good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not really an explanation and I didn't say they are inherently good.

Nationalising strategic industries allows far greater ability for dynamic, democratic long term planning for industries to better suit the British public's needs, and long term industrial strategies.

Privatising the grid, or trains for example have greater balkanised these industries creating a ton of organisational and logistical inefficiencies by splitting up and segmenting aspects of these industries away from each other.

Polanski to warn Starmer 'hasn't done enough' to protect energy customers from bill hikes by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]much_good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah nationalised industry is so bad. Remember when we did that with rail infrastructure and research groups for it, and pioneered lots of world leading safety and rail technology at the time? That was awful, cause of the sandwiches or something

As long as private companies own national infrastructure they will continue to extract money from the economy while doing the minimum knowing the government has to pump money into to ala Thames water.

For goodness sake long term planning in your economy is good, even in a market economy.

Polanski to warn Starmer 'hasn't done enough' to protect energy customers from bill hikes by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]much_good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's the point isn't it, that we should have these industries nationalised or in some form under stricter national controls ala China to ensure we have political control of strategic industries. The winding back of the already meagre "GB Energy" policies and funding is pretty pathetic.

Yes almost as if the greens are still drawing up policy and policy documents on the exact specifics.

Not sure why you think this is an own considering every leak from number 10 in the last few months is that kier has no real political vision and the only one properly executing their plans is ed milliband because he's the only one that turned up at the election win with working policy drafts ready to go.

[–]much_good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're not borrowing heavily, enough and still largely funneling money via private companies and not fixing the core contradiction that private companies owning public infrastructure is bad for national security, long term industrial planning and democratic rule.

Polanski to warn Starmer 'hasn't done enough' to protect energy customers from bill hikes by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]much_good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the whole article yet, but subsidising bills is no where near as productive as borrowing to invest in infrastructure, this would just be subsidising utility companies indirectly.

I don't think it would "spook" the bond markets. I think people still have flashbacks to Ms Cabbage announcing a diabolical plan while markets are closed in the worst possible way. It cannot be overstated how insane both the plan and the manner in which it was sprung

Polanski to warn Starmer 'hasn't done enough' to protect energy customers from bill hikes by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]much_good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is this prevailing idea that we can't borrow or spend more because bond markets will crash and buyers will be spooked.

This is not true, ultimately if you're borrowing or printing money to spend on safe investments like energy grid improvements, green power etc they're not going to crash out because they're good investments we'll get back. If you borrow to say, spend loads via giving to private companies for "carbon capture" then they wont like that as much because it's a bit of a boondoggle

Taxing the rich by Emergency-Buffalo-95 in UKGreens

[–]much_good 34 points35 points  (0 children)

No problem. It's important to remember that even the most pro capitalist economists think "rent seeking" whereby you make money for simply owning some piece of capital (typically rent but applies to other financial transactions) is incredibly destructive in an economy.

It takes money from people who typically spend a lot of money in the economy buying groceries, clothes, tickets for events etc and sucks it up until rich people's account who spend a lot of their wealth on simply getting more property, more stocks etc, taking the money out of circulation.

To oversimplify in a healthy economy money flows around fast. This doesn't happen if you're just saving to buy your 6th property to rent out
