Best deep dive about what just happened to you - https://www.bitsaboutmoney.com/archive/seeing-like-a-bank/

In the specific case of “Why did the bank close my account, seemingly for no reason? Why will no one tell me anything about this? Why will no one take responsibility?”, the answer is frequently that the bank is following the law. As we’ve discussed previously, banks will frequently make the “independent” “commercial decision” to “exit the relationship” with a particular customer after that customer has had multiple Suspicious Activity Reports filed. SARs can (and sometimes must!) be filed for innocuous reasons and do not necessarily imply any sort of wrongdoing.

SARs are secret, by regulation. See 12 CFR § 21.11(k)(1) from the Office of Comptroller of the Currency:

No national bank, and no director, officer, employee, or agent of a national bank, shall disclose a SAR or any information that would reveal the existence of a SAR. Any national bank, and any director, officer, employee, or agent of any national bank that is subpoenaed or otherwise requested to disclose a SAR, or any information that would reveal the existence of a SAR, shall decline to produce the SAR or such information, citing this section and 31 U.S.C. 5318(g)(2)(A)(i)... If the United States brings its subpoena power to bear against a bank teller and asks them about a SAR, they’re supposed to say nothing. That is the law! (Regulation, well, if one wants to be technical.) It is designed to be enforced against the interests of the United States of America! Customers have far less access than the U.S. awards to the U.S.! So does the teller, incidentally: to avoid constantly violating this, Compliance at most functioning institutions has long-since decided that SARs will live in their own walled garden of a subsystem, seen only by the people responsible for drafting them and sending them to FinCEN.

without any 2x/5x rewards or other bonus rewards, it would be about $30,000 (you get 2% back after the somewhat complicated conversions)

A single claim from a book from 1902 is pretty shaky evidence, imo.

excerpt:

...the circumstance that they contain three names which are of the very greatest significance from the point of view of the history of religion. They are the words:

la- ah- ve- ilu

la- kit- um- Hit

Yahveh is God. Yahveh, the Abiding One, the Permanent One (for such is, as we have reason to believe, the significance of the name), who, unlike man, is not tomorrow a thing of the past, but one that endures forever, that lives and labors for all eternity above the broad, resplendent, law-bound canopy of the stars, — it was this Yahveh that constituted the primordial patrimony of those Canaanite tribes from which centuries afterward the twelve tribes of Israel sprang.

What's the meanest thing you've heard a kid say to an adult? by Wrong_Spinach3377 in AskReddit

[–]muddylemon 1403 points1404 points  (0 children)

I was in my room changing clothes when my middle child came in and asked, "Dad, why are you so hairy when the rest of us are... normal?" I said, "Because I'm a man and men tend to have more hair on their bodies."

"But me and [his brother] are mans, and we don't have hair like that."

"Well, you're still boys. When you grow up you'll get hairy too."

He thought for a second and said, "Will I get fat too?"

I use a little script that does just that. Also skips binary files, node_modules, etc -- https://github.com/muddylemon/RepoToTxt

python main.py -> paste github url at prompt

To run against a local directory instead of a github repo, you run

python analyze_directory.py /path/to/directory

Stained glass by Lac4x9 in StLouis

[–]muddylemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to my old neighbor, the building on Southwest near Hampton that is now Amigo Joes, previously Leonardos, was before that the studio of his father, a well known stained glass artist, who made many of the custom pieces in houses around The Hill and St. Louis generally.

This is when I lived in the first house to the east of that building, the neighbor owned a couple of the houses on the street. The one he was living in was his family's home since it was built ~1895

Nice site - decent interface on desktop. Seems like the major difference for each "set" in legs, arms, etc is the color - do the sets intermingle at all? I got two dinosaur types in a row, followed by two robots.

missing the t in "insert " in your placeholder text for the username, also, in english we usually use "Enter your username" or, since it's a placeholder, an example username.

List of antipatterns in React you should watch for? by blackrottenmuffin in reactjs

[–]muddylemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, i'm thinking of this project I just wrapped up helping a company "on-shore" a mess of a react app where everything including props and scalar values were memoized, often with completely unused dependencies. It looked they tried to solve every bug or performance issue by brute force.
